Samplers versus Boxes

OK, I did the "search" thing and I didn't find what I was looking for... so,

I have been buying samplers off the devil site, all one brand and series, and was wondering.... why don't people buy the full sampler for a cheaper price than a box? Other than the box is more presentable than the shrink wrapped sampler?

Case in point, I am about to get 2, 20 samplers of Pad 32's for about $75/bundle tonight off the devil site. If I were to buy 2 boxes of 32 Robustos it would cost me about $110/each at best (granted I think that the boxes have 25).

I am getting per sampler, 5 of the following, Rob's, Toro's, Torpedo's and Church's.... what am I missing?

Right now this is my (and my wife's) favorite NC stick... I am not complaining, just wondering...

You're not missing anything, that's a great buy! Some people don't look at samplers and simply want a box, or they want a specific size and not the flight sampler.

I love the Padilla 1932s too, and I"m actually bidding on that same auction

I"m curious if you wife also smokes cigars, or if she likes that one for som eother reason.

She's not a regular smoker, but she likes the smooth rich taste. When she drinks a beer, she prefers a dark beer that has taste to it. That is what the 32's have.

She also likes the petite miamis tat's. She has expensive and good taste.... at least in cigars and beer.

I have to admit, they are really good smokes and I don't blame her.

Re: Samplers versus Boxes

I find that many samplers come with dog rockets that accumulate space in a humidor. For me, humidor space is very limited. That being said I rarely buy boxes either. Most of my purchases are thru daily deals, where I buy 10-20 of the same stick.

Thankfully, with online cigar shopping you almost never have to pay retail prices.

I agree 100% about the usual samplers, but with this specific sampler they are all Pad 1932's - a box of them are $110+ on cib and $200+ at a B&M, but you can get 4 different sizes of 5 each for about $75. I think that it's a no brainer...

Re: Samplers versus Boxes

i go for boxes because my humidor only stores boxes.. well it has some shelves for "bundles" and "singles" but thats what I throw my daily deals in and whatnot. Also Im particular on what vitolas I smoke. I usually stick to Torpedos and Robustos and wont touch a Churchill with a 10ft pole so the churchills to me are just a waste of money in those samplers.

It's a cigar auction site, jointly run by Cigars International - discount cigars, humidors, cigar accessories and Satan. Hence the name. The Internet equivalent of meth.

I can see it being pretty addictive for sure. Perhaps for once I should be thankful a site doesn't ship to Canada

Re: Samplers versus Boxes

I like large ring smokes sometimes. RP has a 20 count sampler from CI for $60. Five each of 4 sticks including the sun grown and 1992 sixties. Each one is over that price for a box. I'm pulling the trigger on that deal. I like his products. I can't afford individual boxes so these samplers are great for me.

Re: Samplers versus Boxes

I sometimes split boxes with my brother and others. Definitely a good way to go for the casual smoker.

Re: Samplers versus Boxes

If it's the same sampler they have on their website for $85, it is four vitolas. Some may want all the same vitola. I find boxes easier to store.
