Over time, you will begin to be able to discriminate on tastes and flavors more. You'll start to say, hey, this tastes like leather or wood or ect.. And as you educate yourself, say reading this forum for collaboration, you'll also make comparisons between similar types of flavors and tastes based on types of tobacco used, size of cigar, who blended it, country/farm of origin for the tobacco.. you'll decipher, generalize, and become a pro! (This has a lot of ligero flavor; this definitely has a rosado wrapper; this is definitely from cuba; this is Jose Seijas; ect.)

One positive thing about buying an Opus cigar is that over time you get the benefit of having a cigar that will smoke better than when you first bought. If you are a noob waiting a year to smoke it will actually be a great investment because you will be more than ready to smoke it. I never smoke an Opus that I have just bought,,,,I wait at least 6 months and still have Opus cigars that are 5 years old. The trick is to find them at a good price point.

What the hell. If you can afford it (I'm making an assumption here that you can otherwise you wouldn't be posting this question) go for it. What's the harm. You will/will not care for it. Case closed. No harm/no foul. I agree with Karmaz00-buy several & put them in your humi for that special occasion years down the road. By then you're taste in cigars will be pretty much defined and your enjoyment of the Opus will be exquisite. Or not. Ymmv a course.

I'm going to disagree with most, why because I don't like the Opus and because of that I think they are overpriced. But I'm one of few that think that.

Instead of buying a few and letting them rest this is what I would do.

Wait untill you have been a member here long enough and then start a thread in the Buy/Sell/Trade section for a aged Opus X. This way you can get an aged one to try and know if you like it. If you like it then be on the hunt for some, if you don't then you saved money.

Whatever you do, don't pay over MSRP for one!
