Re: gauging interest 4 an Opus Contest

Yes I have had a few and if not for the great S & BOTL I would might not have had the opportunity through B/S/T, etc..Went to a herf in Tenn. at Mikes place "Leaf & Ale," and he surprised everyone with a fine selection of smokes. One of which was a BBMF--I was floored to say the least of Mike's generosity. It's sleeping until my next years herf at his place!

Check it out!

I believe there is high interest for another one of your contests.

Being a newb cigar smoker, I feel that the Opus X is one of the holy grails of puffing.

But I can honestly say that the OPUS X is a bit of a mystery to me. I've smoked about a dozen of them in being purchased from different stores at different times over the past 4-5 years. Their flavor is very unique (somewhat like the GOD OF FIRE blend) but out of the 12 or so that I've had, I have had major problems with them. Almost all of them over the years have been seriously plugged where the draw was almost a migraine waiting to happen. Most of them burned very unevenly. Their construction was alright but not reflective of such an expensive cigar.

Probably the most overrated cigar I've ever come across.
I have smoked a lot of Opus X's and I mean a lot and Never had a plug???

Now burning uneven yes (most all) but never enough that it did not
correct itself but an uneven burn does not bother me one bit

DBcigar and Cigar man Andy your thoughts?

Re: gauging interest 4 an Opus Contest

I have had 1 and I have another in the humi. I bought mine in March for my B-day. Smoked the first and didn't have any plug problems. I enjoyed it, but not sure that the $15 per stick was justified. The second might be next B-Day. It's just one of those things, if you can afford it, you have to try it once.

That being said I bought a 64 padron 3 pack churchill off the devil site and that was ~ $14/stick. Have yet to touch those.

I have not had one yet. I do have a 2004 Forbidden X sitting in my Humi waiting for a special day.

Re: gauging interest 4 an Opus Contest

I have been smoking Opus for eight plus years. The 2002s had a few problems with bitter tobacco. I never had a plug in all these years. I have had a couple of split wrappers, but that is usually due to humidity issues. I also don't recall ever having any burn issues.

There have been a lot of counterfeit Opus over the last few years though. Usually on eBay and smaller B&Ms that do not have a Fuente (Opus) account. I only buy them from people I know or B&Ms that I trust. NEVER buy Opus from eBay

Re: gauging interest 4 an Opus Contest

Ok I have to clear my burn issue up
they are not that bad
Look at the photo below. The cigar has corrected itself already.
Notice the triangle shape in the ash part of the photo

That is what I call a bad burn on an Opus X

This is so true

Most all B&M's are proud to have an Opus account and
most always have a certified plaque on the wall

the next time I go to my B&M I will take a picture of one

Re: gauging interest 4 an Opus Contest

I think I have had seriously bad luck in smoking Opus X's. It's a mystery to me why I couldn't get a draw on 90% of the dozen or so I've smoked.

I'll take a Padron 64 Imperial any day of the week!

Here's a bit of my Fuente stock
