What is your lighting style?

For me I use my butane lighter.

After doing my inspection ritual, pre-light tasting, draw testing and etc. I slowly turn the cigar in my mouth with the foot right above the flame while giving it gentle puff's. I check to make sure I have a nice round even light and if I do, it's good to go.

Now for some reason on the cigars that I am trying for the first time I use my cedar chips to light them. I use the same process but with the cedar. Not sure why but it's a habit I got into.

What about you now?

Re: What is your lighting style?

I use a butane lighter as well. I usually toast the foot, then draw a few short puffs, then inspect it to see if the burn is even.

Re: What is your lighting style?

I have two styles:

First, I consider myself a cigar purist. Therefore, I only use the 3-inch wooden cigar match, when environmental conditions allow. There is NOTHING like the 3-inch wooden match and a slow spin the of the cigar to complete the cigar lighting experience.

Second, I own a three flame torch, for those windier days. The same slow spin applies when lighting. Honestly, it not expensive and I buy it at my corner gas station for about $3.00. It lasts roughly 3 months and I buy a new one when it dies.

I toast the foot with my torch as far away as it will go while still igniting it, then inhale once briefly while flash flooding the foot with the torch flame.

Can you make a video of that? That sounds like it would be pretty interesting to watch.

Re: What is your lighting style?

I torch the foot with a three-burner lighter. Starts fast and down to business. But, that doesn't make it any different than any other way...just fast.

It's cool, I kinda take things personal sometimes. After reading it again it doesn't really seem that you are making fun of him after all. Kudo's to you though for maning up and apologizeing.

Re: What is your lighting style?

I don't take anything personally. He is entitled to his own opinion and definition of purist.

Not that I need to explain myself, but being new, I will. The 3-inch wooden match is my interpretation of lighting in the purist fashion. That is what I mean in my first statement. I do own many very expensive lighters. However, for my daily use to carry around, this is not practical for me. Therefore, I carry an inexpensive 3-flame torch. For anyone that has lost an expensive lighter, cutter, etc., can understand that it's just is not worth potentially losing it. The cheaper lighter is, in the most basic sense, my lighter of choice for daily use away from my home.

I still consider myself a cigar purist in my own personal pursuits of cigardom, no matter what another cigar lover may feel, say or believe.

Your feedback is appreciated though. Billie

Re: What is your lighting style?

I've been playing to much UFC lately, I'm ready to tap somebody out!

Any who before I got my butane lighter all I used was matches. After much searching and studying I learn that it's ok to use certain lighters. I can't tell you the last time I lit a cigar with a match.

Re: What is your lighting style?

I prefer to fully light the cigar prior to taking a puff.
Usually I will use a butane torch, although a wooden match (or two) will work, too. I slowly apply the flame to the foot until it appears thoroughly lit. A gently blow on the foot, to see that it glows uniformly red. A bit more torch if needed until a uniformly lit foot is achieved.

Once the foot appears to be uniformly lit by the "blow-test," its time for a puff.
