The best place bar none to me is Merchants East. Just slightly sophisticated, but not pretentious. Laid back. Couches. Huge alchohol selection. Live jazz a few nights a week. And you can smoke your own with no cutting fee!! I suggest you at least buy a cigar out of courtesy though. I always do.

I second Merchants. Very nice place. Good service but no pressure. I think it's a whole lot more pleasant that Bar&Books, where you have to go into a separate room to smoke....
