+1,,,,I love Pepin but these don't get me all excited either. For those who like them it's a good thing and wish they did it for me.

Ya know... when I had my first one of these I absolutely loved it. Since then every one I've had has not been as good as that first one. Don't know why, but that's what I've found. I still think they are very good, but no longer am itching to buy them anymore. I honestly wonder if anything changed in the blend as demand increased. Or maybe it's just the crop.

Glad you wrote this as I thought maybe it was me. I have had these in the past before and thought them to be pretty good but the last few I smoked just didn't have the same profile. I thought maybe it was because my choices for cigars are for full bodied cigars and lately the ones I have smoked in the past just don't have the taste I liked before.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

Reread my post for my opinion. Holts has 6-pack madness in which the Old Henrys are available. My advice would be to try some. Nice well constructed solid stick and a great value IMO.

Here it is straight from Holt's catalog....

Natural - Old Henry is simply an outstanding Holt's house brand made by industry phenom Pepin Garcia. A very fine assortment of Nicaraguan fillers and binders make up the meat of this marvel and provide a very smooth, but spicy, earthy core laced with nuances of chary wood and fresh peppers. A luxurious Nicaraguan Corojo leaf is then used to wrap up this gem, adding its own additional layer of spice and a sweet, leathery finish. Needless to say Pepin outdid himself in creating this masterpiece and for the price you won't find a better, tastier cigar on the market.

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Strength: Full
Wrapper: Nicaraguan
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan

Maduro - Old Henry Maduro is a phenomenal new cigar. Handcrafted in Esteli, Nicaragua by Pepin Garcia, these cigars feature beautiful, dark and luscious Maduro wrappers. These wrappers are cultivated in the Connecticut River Valley and come from the highest primings of the tobacco plant. After extensive exposure to direct sunlight and many months of rigorous fermentation, these precious, velvety wrappers are teeming with rich, oily flavors and ready to roll. Pepin uses only the finest aged Nicaraguan tobaccos when blending these cigars. The strength is robust and full-bodied and the flavors are bold and complex. A beautiful bouquet of spices, leather and oak marry mouthwatering notes of coffee bean, dark chocolate and vanilla. Available in three sizes, these are some of the finest cigars for the coin you are going to find anywhere!

Wrapper: USA/Connecticut

Thanks for the info. Would anyone describe this as spicy, espresso, dark chocolate, cedar, earthy, smooth? Med, med-full, full?

I'd classify them as slightly spicy & med/med-full.

Haven't tried the maduro, but the natural is a medium to full body smoke has nice spice to it typical of Pepin. I really like these.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

I had a maddie at our last herf and it was quite a nice smoke. I liked the naturals, but the maddie is hands down better. Neither would be classified as full flavor, but they are nice smokes.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

Haven't tried these yet. I never even considered them because I thought they were a little pricey for a house blend. Due to these comments, I'll have to give them a try some time.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

I consider Old Henry's another Pepin light.

I like the Pepin black after a big meal, but am not always in the mood for a strong spicy cigar. Unlike most I don't care for the blues.

I've found that most of the house blends that Pepin builds seem to be a bit milder and less spicy. Old Henry's, Fumadores, Benchmade, Casa Royal, and 5 Vegas Miami all have a place in my humidor. Not as full bodied or spicy but not bad.
