Thumbs up Old Henry from Holts

Last week I picked up a "grudge match" 8 pack from Holts. Four LFD double ligeros which I really like and four Old Henry natural wrapper which came with them. The LFD was, as expected, real nice in about every way. What surprised me was the Old Henry. I'm not usually a big fan of house brands but this was a beautifully constructed stick and I was really surprised how much I liked it. In fact, I'd just as soon smoke one of them as the LFD. Full bodied, tasty and a lot less $$.
Yesterday I received another Holt's 8 pack consisting of four each of Tatuaje Havana VI and four Old Henry maduros. I haven't burned a Tat yet but I just finished the maduro. For me it was an almost perfect stick. The flavors were diverse, the draw was perfect with a clip from my now functioning Xicar, and the burn rivaled anything I have ever smoked. When I finished the nub (burning fingers) I had two sticks of perfectly formed ash and a 3/4" nub in the ash tray. Not another flake of ash. The smoke never got hot or bitter even at the nub and my tongue wasn't sore when I finally put it down. The cigar's burn line was never more than 1/8" off and never required a touch up from the torch. If you like full bodied smokes give one of these a try. Like me, you might be pleasantly surprised. BTW, I don't work for them.

Here is a funny story... I stumbled upon a coolerdor in my basement I forgot about tonight, when I popped it open the digital hygro read 66% and everything looked nice in it. It had an Old Henry in it... lol I might give it a whirl here soon I've heard some pretty good things about them

The Old Henry's are great smokes, I would suggest you try them if you like Pepin's other stuff.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

Heh, I too am an Old Henry "convert" Tried them after all the good word here and was pleasantly surprised. Certainly an excellent stick. Matter of fact, might have one tonight.

Word of wisdom... Holts has them for the cheapest price when you get them in their 6 packs to go. I believe it's even cheaper than by the box. I bought two 6 packs recently.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

Guess I am the lone dissenting opinion so far. I smoke mostly DPGs, and I don't care for the Old Henry. Lacks the strength, body, and flavor of his first line cigars. The cigar is made under contract to a price point, so I guess one shouldn't expect first line quality.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

I thought I'd be the first naysayer but Phantom beat me to it I love nearly all things DPG and I got fiver of these a while back and they didn't do anything for me. I thought the first one was a lemon, but subsequent ones didn't improve my opinion. Oh well. There are a ton of other DPGs to love!

I just finished another natural wrapper Old Henry tonight. Another one right up my alley. To each his own for certain.

Re: Old Henry from Holts

I'm bringing up an older post here. I haven't tried these yet and would like to. Can someone tell me more about the flavor profile for each the Old Henry Natural and Old Henry Maduro?
