Little Havana Overruns???

Anybody try them? Are they good? Holt's has them on sale and the price looks good if they are really from the "secret" boutique cigar factory that they hint at.
Love 'em, like 'em, hate 'em???

Thanks in advance for your input.

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

I picked up two bundles this morning on another recommendation. Be the first time trying so we'll see.

A little bit of a risk but several others have went through 3-4 bundles of the first batches of over runs.

I'm not saying they don't come from that factory, but I extremly doubt that the factory in Little Havana makes enough cigars to have over runs. So if they make them then its on purpose with tobacco that cost less then the other tobacco coming from there.

I have heard that these where good in the past but I have never tried them,

I was thinking the same thing, but I am about to pull the trigger on the LHOIII too. Hope they are as good as what was said about the others in the past.

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

The originals were great smokes for not alot of money, got to believe that the third incarnation of these will be just as good. When word spreds across the other forums I doubt these will stick around long.

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

I'm anxious to hear how these are. I think the buzz that these are actually Tatuaje 2nds is TOTAL CRAP, by the way. If Pete was going to sell 2nds or whatever, he'd make sure to get a lot more than this for them!

I think it's likely that either:

1) they are 2nds of Holt's exclusive Pepin blends (like the Old Henry)
2) they are a unique blend done by Pepin with much cheaper tobacco than he usually uses

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

LHO I's were the best IMO. I still have a few bundles and am trying to hold on to them becuase I think the aging potential is outstanding and they really were that good.

I do believe they were testing some tobacco right before all the new Pepin blends showed up. In addition there were lots of different sizes and different shades of wrappers were used. Uniformity was not a priority.

LHO II's were also excellent, but I suspect they were created primarily due to the success of the LHO Is. And not necessarily premium tobacco testing for new blends, as was my suspicion of what the LHO I's were. Nevertheless, the LHO IIs were also very good.

I passed on the LHO lights, and tney seem to have gotten the worst reviews. The only reason I passed was becuase of my good stock of Is and IIs.

The LHO IIIs are getting good reviiews and I suspect I will take the plunge.

Although I personally have not had the IIIs I would bet they are more than worth a shot based on the Is and IIs I have had, and the strong recs I see on the IIIs.

my $.02

Got a bundle of torps in yesteday. The look good - well made & solid. They smell good too! I'm going to have one this weekend! Course I'll post a review.

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

Just got a bundle of the toros in the other day. Smoked one right off the truck. If all my cigars performed this well, I would be very happy. Perfect construction.

I don't believe these are 2nds to any existing Pepin blend. They are definitely a lighter Pepin variety. They start with the peppery burst but quickly settle down into a more woody toasty flavor. Somewhat one dimensional until the final 3rd and then it kicks up a notch with some cedar and more pepper.

Overall I really enjoyed it and was shocked that it tasted this good (albeit somewhat mild-medium especially for a Pepin) and peformed so well for never getting a chance to settle down.

However, the closest existing Pepin that I think they tasted similar to, would the the Red Label, El Rey de Los Habanos.

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

Somebody should compare these to El Rey de los Habanos (DPG's red label) and Vegas Cubanas. Both lines have identical sizes, aren't over-the-top pricey, and seem to have similar characteristics in color and smoking descriptions. I don't have retailer access to those, but have smoked a bundle of toros and 2 coronas(well, gave a lot away, too over the summer). I'm curious because the only size discrepancy is the Vegas Cubanas ALSO has a double corona type size.. otherwise they're all identical. I'd volunteer for this, but I can hardly buy any exciting groceries so far this semester, let alone cigars! (I did, however, manage to aid in converting a friend from India(thus big into hookah but now HUGE into cigars and wanting to learn/open a lounge in Mumbai, a 0-rare sight) into a very true BOTL who already is sliding far down the slope! And being true to the title which I meant to give to him already, he helps me out when he wants a partner to smoke with, which has been my extent of smoking this semester, post-runout. I've hit him back when I could with some of the few sticks I have, which come from my aging box back home! So there's some cigar success this semester, and hopefully he'll be on these boards ASAP! Sorry for threadjacking within my own post!)

I also noticed another Pepin blend with 5 identical sizes in a line are the Holt's Connoisseur Selection. And while Holt's has LHO-IIIs at medium-full in strength, I'd say medium. It has the others at medium as well(except the ERdlH)

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

After smoking a few this summer I would place them somewhere around a Tatauje - like blend personally. A very good smoke at a great price if you like Pepin/Tats

Thanks! I was hoping to link the LHOs as actual overruns, just for the heck of it, but this, so far, makes them unique.

Re: Little Havana Overruns???

I never bought the I's or II's, but after picking up a bundle of the III's, I wish I had. For the price they are worth the expense. Very good expense to pleasure ratio IMHO.
