Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
I've smoked every Graycliff Cigar in the lineup... here are my thoughts...
*IF* you can get them on cigarbid they are a great cigar. The purple band the Chateau Grand Cru is one of my favorite Cigars. Everyone loves the Espresso series and another fav of mine is the Crystal (white band). However they are definately not worth the MSRP. Id rather grab me a box of Padrons or OpusX Here is what is left of my Graycliff collection... the Purple and White Torpedos used to be full boxes I got off of CBid ![]() ![]() Last edited by Acesfull; 06-18-2009 at 11:37 AM.. |

I agree with Acesfull. The purple one was fantastic and you cannot go wrong with the Double Espresso. The MSRP on them is way outta whack though.

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
I couldnt agree more. I have only smoked a few graycliff smokes but if you can get them cheap on cigarbid then it will be a good deal. Alot of people tend to like the double expresso

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
I have had the 1666, Chateau Gran Cru, and Crystal. The 1666 is a yard gar, at best, IMO. The CGC I had was outstanding and the Crystal wasn't bad. I bought the 1666 on CBid cheap and picked up the CGC, Crystal and an Espresso at the Graycliff factory in Nassau. The reason they are so pricey is the tax that they pay on the importation of the tobacco into the Bahamas....I read somewhere its like 200%. Also, the wages for the rollers are not cheap in a city like Nassau.

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
As stated in the previous posts, do not pay regular price. They are waaaay overpriced.
I got a Graycliff 1666 presidente and the retail on it was $10 when purchased as a box and I most definitely say it wasn't a $10 smoke. |

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
Well from my understanding the 1666 isnt actually made in the hotel where the rest of the Graycliff line is made which is why cigar.com, and CI pretty much give them away in comparison to the prices of the other Graycliffs

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
I agree with most of what has been said by the others. They are overpriced.
To me they tend to have a very unique flavor in them that it isvery hard to find in other cigars. I really like the Blues (not the 1666;never tried) and enjoy the Reds. The Blue gives off these floral tones that make it very interesting. They are nice for a change of pace because of this. If you have never smoked one I would give them a go as they are an interesting experience. You can pick up fivers off of CBID but expect to pay more for them than other smokes even at a "deal" |

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
Graycliff makes a great line of cigars. Yes the 1666 is made in Honduras.

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
The 1666 is IMO, a spongy, poorly made, bad burning dog rocket. Having said that, they're the only ones I've smoked (several).

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
Agree on the 1666,,they should not have their name associated with it..I Like the blue and the G2,, have not tried the expresso basically because of the price.

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
Graycliffs are good, but they are not worth the money. If you want to treat yourself, try the Chateau (Purple and Gold band).

Re: GrayCliff Cigars?
Reading through this thread I am reminded that sometimes a cigar is more than tobacco and money spent. For me a Graycliff cigar will always remind me of my daughters wedding and all of the happy times. I am sure that each of us have a similar experience where a particular cigar represents more than the sum of it's parts, bringing a little lightness of heart with every puff.

Quote:
I absolutely LOVE Graycliff cigars. I also love Davidoffs. Both extremely spendy. But when I really calculate how much enjoyment I get from them, more often than not, the cigar wins. I think of it like this: If I go out to eat, I'm probably going to spend minimum $30 for myself. That provides me a decent meal, great atmosphere, and the dining-out "experience", and it will generally take me an hour or better to finish. That said, I look at how much enjoyment I get from a really great cigar. So when I see the $20 price tag on a Davidoff, I look at it like the way I do when I go out to eat. Its like Richard said, you can get really wrapped up in the enjoyment of a good cigar because of how you sometimes associate it with important events in your life that you can reflect upon fondly while enjoying it. Graycliffs often afford me that very thing. Having said that however, I do recommend following the advice about buying them on Cbid when available! |
