Talking The Longest Ash

Was just wanting to get some opinions and strategies from people as to selecting cigars for long ashes. Just because the cigars long doesn't mean the ash will hold well!

Width vs length?
Long filler vs short filler?
Tobacco type?
Binder type?
Wrapper type?
Shape?
How tightly or loosely its packed?
Brand?

There's a lot that goes into it! Interested in hearing peoples opinions.

Re: The Longest Ash

For what it's worth, I've had some massive ashes on toro-sized cigars, about 6 inches long.

My completely un-scientific observation.

What I figure is the tighter it pack the more solid it will be from falling, but the weight also increases so who knows! Long fillers should holder better than short fillers. Its about finding the right proportions.

Then size plays a factor as well. The wider it is I think it might hold better.

Flor de Oliva Giants 1066 (10 x 66) might be a good candidate for a puff record at the longest ash. You got 10 inches to work with and its nice and wide. Flor de Oliva's are long leave fillers and aren't too tightly packed.

Re: The Longest Ash

ive had coronas hold a good ash. Logic would say go for a churchill or lancero for the length. What are the odds of getting a 6 to 7" ash tho?

Re: The Longest Ash

Being new into this I was not sure how this worked.

Is it the type of cigar or is it how gingerly you hold it while smoking?

Best regards, tony

Mixture of both. No sudden movements, type of cigar, theres a lot of factors that go into it. Haha.

Re: The Longest Ash

One day I am going to try a Hoyo 1066 and see how it does , I smoked one with my friends out in the wind and I got good results so when I am on the deck and feel like playing around I am going to try and 'ash' the whole thing
