Dominican Cigars

Hi all,

I am going to the Dominican Republic in a few days and am looking to expand my collection. Can anyone suggest a nice Dominican cigar? I perfer a nice smooth cigar, nothing to strong. have Monti #2 which I do enjoy.

The one tour will take us to a local cigar shop so I would think they would have a decent selection.

Thanks all!

Re: Dominican Cigars

One thing to watch out for in the DR is to remember that they do not import any other cigars into the country. With that being said if you see what you think is a Cuban it will be Dominican. Please remember this otherwise you will be taken. Also, if you are going to a shop, keep another think in mind is that you will probably be going to a tourist spot and not a local spot. Most Dominicans can not afford to smoke cigars unless they work at a factory.

Re: Dominican Cigars

You can get GREAT deals from the guys selling "Cubans" if you haggle with them.

Be nice, joke around but firm. I was down there for a bachelor party and a friend of mine bought two boxes from a guy for $95 after haggling the guy down from $150. The groom, which was my cousin, thought it would be nice to buy some of these cigars and hand them out in the wedding. We called over one of the guys who started the bidding at $150. I laughed, told him "mierda" (sh!t), and told him $40 for both. The guy told me no way these were Cubans, to which I explained that they were Dominican and would pay $50 for both. He then eyed me and said that if I gave him an extra $5 and a beer (we were staying at an all-inclusive) he would let them go. So we scored two boxes with 25 cigars in each for $55 and a beer. When the other guys heard this they ALL started buying boxes!!! Believe it or not they were actually decent smokes. Lol! Good times.
