Re: What do you value most about Club Stogie?

Seems like you all have already said it ... the people, the genuine desire to help others, the tolerance for dumb noobs like me, and the top-notch mods.

I love learning from the big apes and helping other noobs with their questions and problems.

I've haunted a couple of other forums during the past year. The one thing that impresses me about CS is the variety and sheer volume of posts. Some other forums are lucky to have a dozen posts a day. I can come home from work, go to CS, and there are always 2-3 pages of new threads. I can always find lots of stuff that interests me. I guess that's just another reason I've made CS my new internet cigar home.

Re: What do you value most about Club Stogie?

The fact that i can go downrange and find some guys who are out of smokes and tell them that they will be taken care of, and not worry about whether there will be people willing to help them. And the fact that i posted that 4 soldiers needed some smokes and got 10 people who volenteered to send them. It worries me that the LLGs here cant count very well, but it works out in the end!

Thanks for making this place a special place, i am happy it was this site that popped up on Google and not some other cigar forum!

Re: What do you value most about Club Stogie?

When I first joined CS I was like every other newbie. I wanted to learn everything I could about cigars. I asked the same humidor, cutter, lighter and cigar questions that are being asked today. I was never flamed or given the cold shoulder or told "shew go back to your corner and just watch".

I would log in everyday with a new question, or I would read old posts for hours, or until the wife told me to get off the computer and help with the kids...!!!

CS has evolved (for me at least) as a place I can come and talk with friends. The cigars have almost become secondary to my need to see and read what all my friends have done the past 24 hours. Don't get me wrong, I still look for information about cigars all the time but I find I want to also talk with many of the members I've grown to know and not just about cigars.

I like reading about Dustins ball gags, Tom's dehydration problems, Dave's (klug's) everyday comedy and good will, Sean's wit and love of UPS, Greg's love of ISOM. I could go on and on but I think everyone know's what I'm talking about.

It's not just the cigars, that's what brought me here by chance but now it's about the friends and members here at CS.

Thanks Paul for the best cigar forum on the net.

Re: What do you value most about Club Stogie?

hard to follow up Daddy'o3s post without a smark remark. but i'll try.

guys like Jerry (dadof3), who i feel good about knowing. he's a stand up guy, the type of guy i wish there were more of in the world. he cares, he's honest, he's generous, he's funny.... i feel honored to have helped him learn a little bit, to pass on the tiny bit o' knowledge i have gained from "elders" in the cigar forum communities.

when i was new, i had people help me out, send me a few choice smokes and want nothing material in return. they only told me to do the same for a newbie when i am in the position to do so, like they had done for me. kinda like a "pay it forward" in life thing.

the cycle continues this very day. i was approached by some elder gorillas to get in on some monthly group buys and was shown how to do it, the right way. later on, i started facilitating my own "special buys" when certain vendors would have a sale, then decided to start up the monthly group buys. i chose 3 newbies to CS. 3 members you all know and SHOULD respect. their character sets them apart, and that is partly why i contacted them in the first place. it was a chance to expand their horizons, show them the proper way of doing things, basically the same ropes/vines i was shown over time by more experienced gorillas than myself.

i feel proud of what i've done, i've made a difference in someones life. sure, it may just be cigars, but that's what has brought us together here.
now i feel even better when i see these three pass on their knowledge to newbies, and some of them have taken the monthly group buy and kept it going. they're doing it right, the way it's meant to be done, the way it has been done time and again.

it's the relationships of fellow members that i cherish. we can have it out over political issues, talk about urinating to put out fires, but from that, respect and friendships have grown.

i'm a member of about 8 or 9 cigar forums (i lost count), and this is my home - it fits me, the type of people i want to be associated with are here.

ps - and i can be a blunt jackass forum-nazi non-contributing jerkhole and get away with it.

Talk about character development. This is what it is all about. And the summary.... priceless. When you find something that fits you.... you keep it.

I have come to the conclusion that what I value most about Club Stogie is that we have evolved as a group from the lower mammals, we no longer eat our young.
"No longer eat our young..." <G> That's succinct and precise to what I've experienced here so far. I will most likely stick with trades, contests and posting my inevitable, dreary reviews, but I *DO* find this to be a quite friendly place. Thanks.

Re: What do you value most about Club Stogie?

Being able to share my love of the leaf with others that are as passionate as I am. I went to my first herf this year and my wife and I were blown away by how friendly we were welcomed. To have people of different ages and backgrounds being able to come together to share their knowledge and make friends was a GREAT experience. I have found a great friend in my own city that I would have never met otherwise (he is a bad influence though )
This is, and will remain, the only cigar forum I frequent.

The sense of community that draws everyone here day after day. CS is much more than just a wellspring of cigar knowledge, it is a collection of many interesting, generous, and friendly people.

i forgot 1 thing.
if you can read this, go fluck yourself in a way that only you can enjoy.
i value the time i waste by clicking and dragging through some people's posts just to see if there's a hidden message.
and i was just joking about "flocking yourself".
sometimes you can say/help a lot and nobody will ever see it, whether it be behind closed doors (via PM), over the phone, or with hidden text. i prefer phone calls, and i suggest some of you use up those "unlimited night and weekend" minutes on those cell phones, call your buddies here, laugh a little bit, get to hear someones voice and how their tone comes across. you'd be amazed at how much it changes how you read what they type from that point on. you may end up with a friend to last a lifetime.

Also, there is a good-natured attitude here that is uncommon on the internet.

The newbie welcome is the best ive seen anywhere, regardless of location, knowledge levels, etc.
The variety of subjects covered across the board, and knowledge shared willingly and openly.
Best of all its like having an online family which your made to feel part of straightaway!
Awesome i love it!!!!
