Graycliff 1666

Hey guys,

So ive been reading a bunch of reviews of the Graycliff 1666 and it seems alot of people have been giving it a hard time. Yes, this cigar is only a graycliff by name and not made at their facility in the bahamas. And yes, for a cigar in its price range the contruction and burn should be better. But this is the cigar that made me really start smoking cigars about a month ago. And yesterday i had the pleasure of revisiting this cigar to see if it was as good as the first one, and it was even better!

Now ive only smoked a handfull of diffrent cigars, maybe 15 or so, but so far nothing has tasted better and been smoother than this 1666. I need to find these for cheap because if i can i can surely sacrifise burn quality for the flavor of this smoke.

Are there any other 1666 lovers out there?

And for those of you that have had the 1666 and liked the taste, can you suggest me any similar tasting cigars?

Thanks guys, you all rock!

---Joe

Re: Graycliff 1666

they shouldnt paint it either
Actually its not a bad cigar but I dont think it should have Graycliff's name on it.. it just gives it false expectations.

Re: Graycliff 1666

Yeah some maduros are painted to appear darker, when I was going through my cigars the other day i stumbled on my 1666 stash... they look like they were painted. RP does this alot too, its one thing that bugs me about his maduros

Quote:
Thankfully, the process of painting and rushing maduros to market was far more prevalent during the cigar boom than it is now. Most of today's maduros are the product of a great deal of patience and know-how on the part of the cigarmakers and tobacco growers responsible for the product. If you sit down tonight and light up a maduro cigar, there's a good chance that its outer leaf was planted in the ground many years ago.
From http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar...2,1519,00.html Its a pretty good article on maduros

Re: Graycliff 1666

They've never seemed painted to me, when smoking one i've never seen signs of being painted.

But they are good cigars, they just need some rest. For the price you can get them on sites like CBid they are a good buy, but if you're paying the $15 apiece retail then you're getting screwed.

I Don't know what flavors you got when you smoked the 1666 so its hard to recommend, but my top maduros are the Brazilia and L'Anniversaire by CAO, the Arganese Maduro, and the cugine maduro by arganese.

Yeah Dom you are right I went back and looked... and compared it to a RP I KNOW is a painted maduro.. But I do agree for $15 definately not worth it.. get the Purple Graycliff if you want a $15 Graycliff

Re: Graycliff 1666

I've never considered the 1666 a bad stick. It just isn't a Graycliff, and it doesn't justify a Graycliff price. You can get deals on these on Cigars International. CI often has good buys on the 1666 alone, or as part of a sampler.

Re: Graycliff 1666

I see in the CI paper catalog they have the 1666 robustos for $25 for a 5 pack. Strangley u cant find this on their website anywhere unless you type in the product code found in the catalog into the search field.

I could probaly live with $25 for a five pack, but im going to try and do better on cbid.

Also, i have had the brazilia. In fact it was my very first cigar and was pretty good. Im looking to try this again because i think that my tastes are starting to get better i may enjoy it even more. I tihnk im going to end up with a CAO sampler since i hear that most of their cigars are high quality smokes.

Re: Graycliff 1666

It sounds like you really like the Maduros, and if you like CAO like I do, you gotta try the L'Anniversaire Maduro. It gets almost no attention, god knows why, but it's one of my all-time favorites and it's just the epitome of maduros IMO.

Here's my review on it:

Re: Graycliff 1666

I like all the Padilla 32, 48, 68's, Habanos and Miamis... all good deals. But you are better off getting the 1666's off of Cbid. For the 5ers in that deal you might want to sample the Limitadad 09, MOW Ruination or Camacho Corojo Limited 08/22, those are the better deals for 5'ers for $25 right now

By the way Nick, where did you find that deal on CI? Are there deals like this that I am missing often? I cant seem to find this deal just browsing around the site for some reason.

Re: Graycliff 1666

Someone posted it on another forum, he said he saw it in his CI catalog.
I didnt get to the deal in time to get the Padilla Habano Artisan, I'd really like to score a few of those.
