Casa Magna 2nd release.

Have any of you tried the second release of the Casa Magna yet? I just bought a half dozen Robustos, and the first two had construction problems. I am now on the third and I am having an issue with this one as well. This one is plugged and the first two tunneled badly. Just hoping it was just this box.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

I wouldn't know how to tell between 1st and 2nd release, but I picked up a 5er from a B&M a couple weeks ago, and tried to smoke my first this weekend. Emphasis on the word try. It was rolled super tight and was difficult to draw and pull smoke out of. I quit about 1/3 in, blue in the face. Must say, I am not too impressed by mr. "#1".

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

Sorry to hear, Andy. Perhaps try dry boxing the remaining three and see if that helps. There's a guy around here with a couple of first release boxes in stock. Sounds like I might want to stock up on those.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

The second release just shipped about 10days ago. If you bought them before then, the were ORR. Original Release. I still have 20 ORs left, but we will see. They were so popular, that I think they may have rushed them.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

I'm glad you shared Andy and confirmed with others that I was not alone here. I was all geared up to review my first impressions on Saturday and I had some good pics started, but I got so frustrated I grabbed another stick from the humidor and just enjoyed the afternoon without distraction. I'm gonna sit on the other 4 I have and see if it wasn't construction, but too much humidity that gave the bad draw.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

I have heard more disappointments than joys with Casa Magna. I was shooting the S... with a guy at the Local and he siad that the brand is all hype and overpriced; The only reason they won is because of the amount they had spent in advertising in CA (magazine)... He told me that he had his doubts on getting a few boxes for sale due to the disappointments that would follow. He wanted to keep his rep of being a "quality cigar" stocked store. Im always up for a new thing but I try them slowly and dont jump into full box situations. Kinda glad I didn't with these.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

I think what I shall do is grab a single or two if I ever come across one and see for myself. People's palates are different. Who knows maybe i'll like them. Not saying I hate them, I was just stating what I was told and was kinda weiry of them.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

I had 5 casa magnas recently
3 robustos
1 belisco
1 short fat one..

all 5 with same construction issues. All plugged.
Extremely tight draw. They were absolutely horrid.

A complete waste to time and money.

Re: Casa Magna 2nd release.

I dunno about people thinking the first release of Casa Magnas were bad or overpriced.. everyone that has smoked them has said how good they were for the price. Good for the price being the key phrase. I picked up 30 belicoso for $105 of the first release and they sat about 30 days before I got home from Iraq and probably another 10 days or so before I smoked one. I think I smoked 3 total and each one has been awesome with no burn or draw issues. I cant speak much for the 2nd release.

And that's it, in a nutshell. My first CM was absolutely ruined by all the JdN comparison hype and that *so obviously paid for* review in CA. I simply expected something spectacular and it simply wasn't. When I eventually revisited the band, some months later, my expectations were in the basement. On this occasion, I really got it... I was able to enjoy the cigar for what it was.

I can see the point made above, about trying to over-produce a second release, based on the OR reception. It makes me wonder if this isn't going to be Drew Estates' albatros. They have a good cigar at a reasonable price point. They haven't reinvented the wheel.
