The 4th, up in smoke

I dragged my sorry butt out of bed about 11 AM, had a late party night on the 3rd. Dreary day in Saint Paul, cloudy, windy, rain drops on the windows. I decided to stay in, watch sports and smoke the day away.

Coffee was brewing and I decide on a Romeo & Julieta Anniversary to start my day. Not anything special, but something better than what I usually smoke. An enjoyable smoke to start my day.

My afternoon was the Twins/Tigers game, Twins won. I smoked my first Opus X. Part of a bomb from Glock. Not something I'd buy on my limited budget. The pre light draw was great. Sweet with a hint of something? the reviews say raisin & clove. I'd agree. Nothing I'd tasted before. The first half was the best smoke I've had. I'd read some bad comments about the second half of the Opus, but this was not the case. A fine cigar right down to the nub.

Next up Nascar and a Taboo Limited Reserve Maduro. This is my go to cigar when I get out of the $2 range. Very tasty, never disappoints. My TV room was as smoky as the track when Kyle Bush was bouncing around like a pinball. Life is good.

Its late in the evening. Feels like one more. rummaging through the box with the better stuff it caught my eye. Dark and oily, naked, firm to the touch. No decision. Pre light draw surprising. Not the same but somewhat similar to the Opus with a darker flavor. I fired it up an smoked it to the nub. Might be my gutter pallet but I enjoyed this one more than the Opus X. Ashton VSG (another hit from Glock). A great smoke to close out the 4th.

Thanks Bill for the exposure to a couple of fine cigars I would not have considered buying. My budgets going to hate you!

I just had a CAO America, which I had been saving. I thought it was good, if a bit one dimensional.

I smoked the America Monument yesterday, too. It started out promising to become something great, but didn't. Towards the end of the second third, I started getting faint ammonia, which persisted through the rest. Obviously too young. I'd had it a couple months, but from what I got in my mouth, it needed a good 6mos more.

Sounds like a good smoke day! I like the VSG better then the Opus too, but to each their own right!
