I'm so happy that I discovered puff (CS at that time) before I ordered anything. All the horror stories made me steer clear of Thompson.

Re: Thompson Cigars

I hate to say it but when I ordered my first humidor, I ordered it from them and it was backordered but they were really good with customer service. They called me when the item came into their warehouse, which was a day before the backordered eta, then they called me again when it shipped. They never called to ask me to sign up for anything but just to inform me that things have changed with my order. I had a decent experience with them until I tried to smoke one of their house blends and use the free lighter they gave me. Solution: donate the thompson cigars and buy ronson jet-lites. Their prices are high though, they got me as a noob but thanks to this site I am now in the hands of the devil...

Yea their prices are kinda high but so long as you don't mind the calls (I got 2 calls wanting my review of their service for one box of cigars?) they seemed an ok company.

Re: Thompson Cigars

As has been said but can't be said enough as far as I'm concerned, why use Thompsons? Like a lot of us I fell victim to them in my early smoking days -before the internet. And then I discovered JR Tobacco and realized how much I was getting screwed by Thompsons on their prices. That's been almost 20 years ago and a address change and I still get a catalog from time to time.

There are a lot better dealers out there with products in stock with good prices that don't pull the old bait and switch scheme. I have a few that I have developed good relationships with over the years that I trust and give me excellent service.

And I purchase from my local B/Ms too. I think it is important to support the 2 local shops we have in the area. Are their prices higher than the internet only dealers? Yes, but they have state taxes they have to pay and probably more overhead than some of the strictly internet dealers. But the local guys don't stock everything that I want to smoke either which is why I need some internet dealers I can trust.

Re: Thompson Cigars

I was one of their customers er victims in the pre-Internet days. That ended by pure luck. I had started using the Internet, went to their web site, and it was down. So I searched Usenet for Thompson's Cigars and couldn't stop reading for several hours. The posters talked about ridiculously high prices, lousy service, etc.

I never ordered from them again--and kicked myself for being such a stupid newb.
