I do agree about smoking the damaged cigar(s) and waiting for the "POP"... LOL ... Roast that sucker for his/her dastardly deed!!!

If the airflow is too "off" by the holes, try a very small piece of wrapper from another cigar to cover them. Just wet it lightly with your tongue and apply over the holes.

Re: This isn't a beelte, right? Right?

I already operated on it, looking for that little *%&#!!

No luck.

The others are in the freezer. Still not convinced it was a beetle, scares me to think they could hatch in my office, which rarely gets above 70 degrees

Thanks all for your responses!

If there are holes in the wrapper you won't find the beetle inside. The holes are an exit point where the beetle left the cigar. You may find OTHER beetles but the ones that made the holes in the wrapper are gone from the cigar.

Tobacco used in cigars already has dormant beetle eggs on it from the time it was picked in the field. The eggs remained dormant during the aging and rolling of the cigar, awaiting the ideal conditions to hatch and begin their life process. After the eggs hatch, the larva eat away inside the cigar. As the larva grow into the actual beetle, they eat their way out of the cigar looking to find other mature beetles to mate with. This is why ALL cigars in the same box or humidor or whatever you store them in need to be frozen and whatever type of container you had them in needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Freezing also works for this as well.

You should warn people before you post something so gruesome. That is quite disturbing.

This is not always true. Beetle larvae will eat in whatever direction suits them. Sometimes, they eat all the way to the outside of the smoke, turn around, and go back in. They've been known to eat their way from one cigar to the next. They've even been found to have eaten equal parts of two cigars next to each other inside a box, leaving a line, more than 4 inches long, on the outside of each cigar.

When you see a perfectly round hole, that is a sign of an adult beetle escaping. When the hole is oddly shaped (such as the one posted by the OP or the one I linked to), It's usually a case of feeding larvae.

I am hesitant to say Ive never had a beetle, since as soon as I do I will. Uncle Murphy.

Anyway, how do you "clean" a humidor?

That was an awesomely disturbing picture. I shuddered to think about my poor cigars looking like that. Scary!

Ya, definitely quarantine and freeze. On the plus side, you can now tell with authority how it tastes/feels to smoke a cigar with little beetles exploding inside.

This can often be the case, very true.
