Re: Help me pick out some samplers!

Well ive made up my mind, or should i say had my mind made for me. I decided on the DPG of course, and left the other decision up to my wife. I simply named a few of the canditaes that you guys recomended and told her to pick the one she thought sounded good.... and she picked the camachos. So thats what it shall be... hell, she is usually right anyway (allthough i'll never admit it to her face )

The fact of the matter is im gonna smoke em all anyway down the road.. so its really not which ones should i buy... but more like which one should i buy first!

Famous has the best 5 pack prices by far.
Holts has even better prices for a 6 pack.

Your gonna love the DPGs Joe. Enjoy those Camachos too--heard a lot about them over the last couple months, but I haven't gotten to that brand yet either.
Look forward to seeing your reviews!

Actually, writing reviews will help you to pick up on the subtler tastes in your cigars. It helps you to concentrate on what you are tasting

Also, reviews do not have to describe whether you tasted smething like eldeberries with a sip of a mint julip to be effective. If the cigar has a taste you cannot describe but reminds you of a mouth ful of dirt or peat when you were a kid or the smell of a hay field, etc. you just classify that as "earthy". Same with other things too, just use general terms for now.

There is nothing wrong with using general terms for things you cannot yet pick out.

Re: Help me pick out some samplers!

just wondering guys, im getting the DPG's and camachos tomorrow.... do you think these are worth smoking right from CI, or must i avoid tempation and let them rest for a few weeks???

should i just let them rest and burn through the RP and CAO this week on vacation (leaving wednesday for da beach!)

Re: Help me pick out some samplers!

Check them when they get there. If they seem to dry then leave them home. If they seem a little to wet then you should take a couple. Just let it sit out a few hours before you smoke it.

Re: Help me pick out some samplers!

I dont think ive spent enough time actualy trying to inspect them for moisture content. I guess this is something i should start paying more atention to. So far as a guidline ive been giving everything i smoke at least a weeks rest in the humi.

Re: Help me pick out some samplers!

Pinch the foot, if it feels like a sponge its to wet. If its to dry you can prob tell by look and feel, the wrapper will feel dry and it will make cracking noises when you roll it between your fingers or squeeze the foot. Take out the ones you have now that are good and expect them, roll them between your fingers etc... That way you will know what a cigar ready to smoke feels like.
