Re: Flavors of What?!?
I once read a published wine reviewer who wrote that a wine had hints of "barnyard." I'm assuming that's REALLY earthy!
And my neighbor cooks meat in his smoker and often uses oak, so I guess that's kind of like eating oak.

Kind of like how you see sound and taste color when you're high? Never had a cigar do that to me, to be honest. |

Re: Flavors of What?!?
What you are describing is a slightly rare but definitely not unknown condition where the brain makes connections most peoples' brains do not. It's known as synesthesia. For example, one of my best friends' fathers has this in connection with numbers. When he thinks about numbers, they have a color and flavor to him. For example the number six might conjure up the color blue and the taste of raspberries. He has a hard time describing it but says that his brain has worked that way his entire life, and he tends not to bring it up because other people's brains don't work the same way.

It's something like that, but that article didn't mention anything about taste, its inly numbers, or words, or letters as far as I could tell, it does appear to be genetic though cause my aunt is the same way, didn't know it was that rare, huh, cool

Yeah, didn't that guy that broke the world record for counting down Pi have that too? I seem to recall him saying that. I also saw a program on it. Apparently a number of these people have savant like abilities due to the way their brains associate colors and shapes to numbers and such.

Re: Flavors of What?!?
It is very common to refer to tastes based on what we smell around us.
And you probably have tasted Oak. That is what gives scotch and bourbons most of their taste. Same thing with wine. There is a reason the best are aged in Oak casks. |
