That's funny, because I find it just the opposite. I always take my bands off prior to enjoying my cigar, and very seldom have any problems. When I tried taking them off as the burn got closer to the band, it seems that they are harder to take off and sometimes damage the wrapper. I think that many band makers are going to like a press and stick glued end and when the glue heats up, it actually sticks better. Just my observations though.

This happens to me sometimes. I always take my bands off before I smoke

I find that lightly pinching the band before removing it helps to break the adhesive loose making for an easier band removal without molesting the cigar.

Re: Bands stuck to wrappers

It's frustrating esp. when you want to save the bands. I get one about every 25 cigars,,,,but I somehow manage to get it off without tearing the wrapper on the cigar.

Me too, but the real bitch is that it was a Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario. First wrapper came off with the cedar wrap, then came off with the aniversario band, and even more with the band itself. That is just one of sticks that day. At least C-Bid replaced it for me.

This is true. It seems that some cigar manufacturers still use the type of glue that is hard to get the bands off no matter when you try to remove them (Drew Estates and Fuente comes to mind). Makes it a bear when trying to save the bands.

If that's the case then they must be using Super Pectin!

Oh Shuckins! That pic makes me want to cry! I've had many great Fuentes that frustrated me terribly with their banding issues. I honestly don't think I've had many problems with other brands, but I've only tried a handful of others. Either way, I feel your pain!

Re: Bands stuck to wrappers

I have a box of Fuente churchills and I think 4 of the 5 I smoked had bands just like the one pictured above. They tear rather then coming apart cleanly.

Never had one damage the wrapper of the cigar itself, though.

Re: Bands stuck to wrappers

sherpa's are hard to get off as well but i just take my time and usually don't have any problems. When it starts burning remotely close to the label I stick my nail under the label and just barely get a crease of it loose so when Its time to remove the band it comes off a lot easier (kind of got it down to a science) lol.

Most of mine seem to be that way too.

Re: Bands stuck to wrappers

I don't smoke many Dominican cigars, but the few I do smoke are usually Fuentes. They are the worst with the glue (pectin). Not only is it sweetened, it is smeared all over the cigars, even on their high end stuff.

Re: Bands stuck to wrappers

Well I'm sad to say that I have absolutely no experience with a Fuente. Though I would love to try one, I just haven't made that purchase yet. I have smoked a variety of other high end cigars. Perdomo, CAO, DPG, RP and a few others. For the most part I am able to slip the band off the end of the stick after I burn down to at least the last 1/3. Also it helps me to rotate the band before and wile sliding it off. I know there were a few sticks that I was not able to do this to so I had to peal them off. but none damaged the cigar.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the age of the cigar? maybe the glue cures harder after time. everything I've smoked has been a recent purchase. I'm still pretty new and don't have a large selection yet. So sticks don't sit in my Humi very long.

Usually the more age a cigar has the easier it is to slid the band off. Over time the RG on a cigar will get slightly smaller. Not enough to notice but enough to make the band come off easily.
