Question:
I'm bidding on my first GOF, wondering how much is too much to pay for these? God of Fire 2006 Don Carlos Blend Robusto Tubos

Just make sure you are doing a little research before you bid on any cigars.
Have a good idea what the actual value is. If the cigar is important to you then bid what you are comfortable with. I always say just because someone else would not pay that price does not mean I won't. If I want it I buy it.

Re: Buying HTF sticks from On Line Auctions.

Thanks guys for the excellent information !
As a newbie I guess I could easily get lost there.
I only used cigarauctioneer so far and when I placed a bid it actually told me that the bid is higher then the current price on FSS. Since then I not only look a the MSRP listed with the auction but also check a few sites for current prices.

Let me ask you this though:
Do you guys actually smoke these $35-$60 sticks or are you simply collecting them (or both) and if you smoke them, would you say that the knowledge of the price enhances the taste ?

I don't know about the others but I'd say the taste of the tobacco enhances the taste of the cigar, and that's it. My enjoyment of a cigar never depends on how much or how little I've paid for it. I recently had a $3 - $4 La Aroma de Cuba Marquis that I enjoyed much more than a GOF ($20 God of Fire), believe it or not.

And I'd say that very few people on the boards are paying $35 - $60 for their cigars. I think we all have found ways, as Andy and others here have said, whereby we can get these hard to find sticks cheaper than that and closer to MSRP.

Brothers on here will post 'for sale' threads or you might be able to trade with somebody who has a bunch or you can keep checkin' CBID or with your local B&M or one in another town you might be visiting. You can also call B&M's that Andy listed and see if they have any in stock & would be able to ship to you.

Best of luck!

Eventually, everything I buy gets smoked. The 'knowledge of the price' just makes me say to myself, "this thing better be damn good." Thats assuming I haven't smoked the 'whateveritis' before.

If it is in my humidor it is subject to be called to battle at any time, whether it is a $2.00 stick or a $100.00 stick.

?
Definitely yes. That's what cigars are meant for. Why buy a HTF if not to experience it.

I don't pay more than $20ea or $150 a box for the Carlito Double Robusto Tubo. The key for me is the buy now price on the boxes. If they are $150 or less, I buy them at that price. GWTGG Get while the getting's good.

Re: Buying HTF sticks from On Line Auctions.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the insight !
I already made the experience that a $4 stick was at least on par with a $10 one.
I guess my main problem is currently 'taking the time'. With the only place for me to smoke being on our uncovered balcony (or the detached single garage) there aren't many evenings I can reserve for a 90min smoke to fully enjoy it. And I would hate to get interrupted by rain on the first third of a $25 exceptional stick

Re: Buying HTF sticks from On Line Auctions.

I agree with the rest of the guys, price is not the issue. I have great high dollar cigars and great low dollar. I have had identical cigars tatse different. I love trying new cigars, that to me is what makes smoking so awesome. Cigar smoking is never boring, there is always something new waiting in the humidor. Explore and enjoy!
