2009 sucks......and as far as im concerned so does the 2008. Casa Magna is just another one of CA's pets. Its almost like cigar aficionado is playing a game (what sh@#ty cigar can we make famous next?) and i dont like it.

I'm not gonna say it sucks but I will say that to me it is average. CA must have been smoking some green stuff that rated a 98 if they thought this was even a top 10 cigar.

I agree. The 2008 batch was O.K., but I had one of the 09's and it was horrible. Aficionado is a joke when it comes to that shit.

I think CA's attempt at an all inclusive top 25 is a valiant, well intentioned, fun, and intriguing idea. I do think that the idea of just telling us what a good cigar is (regardless of price) should be of top priority, but I seriously question the logic behind taking in consideration the price of a cigar for just one, and not all of them. I doubt they did. I think they just honestly thought it was that good. Most importantly, it's their list, not ours.

I don't read CA but I would just about bet the farm that Casa Magna did a lot of advertising in it.

We should make a Puff e-zine with reviews and articles related to smoking. Would be such a fun project.

I too have found CA a bit biased and unorganized.

You know that wrapper color varies a lot from box to box, as well as crop to crop, right? I have some Tat Noella Reservas that look like COMPLETELY different wrappers, and they are from the same release. No offense, but the picture proves nothing.

As far as which year is better--remember that if you smoke a 2008 tonight and a 2009 tomorrow they will have up to a year's worth of age difference between them, lol. Sounds obvious, but people forget that. I've heard the same thing about the current Tat Cabaiguan Guapos 54 release vs last year's..."this year's don't taste as good!" Yea, well, age them a year and then they probably will!

Sorry if that was negative, I'm in a weird mood.

It's not negative-- it's stating the obvious. I didn't post the pictures to make any other point than to supplement what dialogue had already existed on here about how different the Magna's had looked. I had read threads on it and hadn't seen one with and visual evidence. Although crop changes and shades and flavors will vary from box to box and year to year, a large variance is never sought out or aimed for. It just happens. And usually when it 'just happens' it not as drastic as this. Even if you say the 08 were the lightest of the 08's and these 09's are the darkest of the 09's, there probably shouldn't be that drastic of a change. Let's just hope it doesn't flip flop suddenly mid way through the year! Then I'd be worried lol.

This could also be a friendly reminder that if you likea smoke out of a box, buy a few because you never know...

I picked up 3 of them for $5.75 ea in GA over the weekend. I smoked one whick I thought was perfect and gave one to my son. I'm letting the last one sit for a while but I don't think I can stand the wait. Great sticks.

Smoked a 09 (dark wrapper) corona size one tonight. It burned great, great draw, good amount of smoke and tasted good to me. Also gave me a pretty good buzz.

They did almost none at all in 2008. This year there have been maybe 2 or 3 full page ads.

That picture is a pretty big difference in wrapper shades, but like you said, that does happen. I was at a shop yesterday and saw 3 open boxes of Liga Privada no. 9. Two were brown, not that dark. The other was VERY dark and a bit blotchy (as in they didn't dye it). I have to admit, though, that I purchased the darker one specifically for that reason...gorgeous cigar!

Another factor with the CM could be that this current batch was pushed through a bit faster in order to meet demand--just saying it's a possibility, some manufacturers will do that sometimes.

In any event, age the newer ones a bit and I'd be surprised if they really were so far off from the first ones.

I made a similar case for explaining a few of the probable reasons for the CM getting that rediculous rating, for which I was promptly flambe'd. It's not about how much they advertised the CM, duh. It was how much space Drew Estates occupied and contracted to occupy in the future. Had they plastered CM all over the place, the subterfuge would have been far too obvious. I am not saying this is the only reason for the rating, just a likely factor.

One has simply to look at the case of Rocky Patel. Prior to commencing his campaign in CA, his stuff never got noticed. Now...

CM is a decent smoke. Not great, just decent. If you do factor in price, it's a good smoke. Not great. JMHO.

I totally agree. I thought they sucked. Not worth my money. The only good thing about theses cigars is - the don't pound you with the price.
