Unfortunate Evening
I went out last night to smoke a Monte Whit Label. I haven't had one in a while, as I've been getting into the heavier sticks more and more, but I always enjoy them when I do. The humidity in my humidor was a perfect 62 (I always check when I grab a stick) and stupidly I didn't check the pre-light draw. As I lit it I found that it was waaaay over humidified. I got about ten puffs in and had to toss it. I followed it up with a Rocky Patel Decade, which was much better, but I couldn't even enjoy it because of the bad taste then Monte left in my mouth and the bitter disappointment that I had.

Re: Unfortunate Evening
Yup. Looks like I'll be getting another humi of cbid for dry boxing. To the people that do this: do you season it at all or just use it as a cedar box?

Re: Unfortunate Evening
I kind of seasoned mine a little bit. It stays around 50 - 52% humidity.

Re: Unfortunate Evening
well, my humidors sits at 64-67% humidity, and cigars keep on soaking water from humidifier. Like i got to refil once a week, or every two weeks, but their fine! Never had any problems! They just keep on getting oilier, and oilier!

Re: Unfortunate Evening
I think you might be hitting an interesting point. I think that some cigars perform better when wetter than other cigars. I am finding that with my stix, anyway. ymmv.

No reason to buy another humi for dry boxing. Just get a decent cigar box from your B&M. I use a humi-quality RyJ Anniversario box that I got for free when I bought seven of them from my local. They even sell Opus X (decent, not great) boxes for $10. Considering youre only ever going to put a handful of sticks in it, paying real money for a dry box seems a terrible waste.

Re: Unfortunate Evening
I take a few handfuls of smokes a week and place in the drybox. These are the cigars I will smoke through the week. If there are any that have not been smoked in a week to 10 days time then they go back in the cooler.
