Puff, from Newb to Aficionado

Good title eh?

Well I thought it might be a fun community project if we would organize a book and then the members of the forums can write and contribute to different parts of it.

I've read some books, nothing special. Would be nice to have "the bible" of cigar smoking. Collective knowledge about every aspects of cigars. There really are so many aspects to cover.

If you can find a way to distill the useful information contained on this site and eliminate the jack-assery, (eliminating my posts would be a good start), you would have your book. Everything anyone needs to know is here.

Would be fun I think.

Re: Puff, from Newb to Aficionado

I've been smoking for nearly 40 years and I continue to learn new things on cigar sites as a whole. The exposure to everyone's experiences only enhances the knowledge and wisdom gained from being able to read a lot of the posts on here. I have read posts from others and their reviews on cigars which has inspired me to try them and I have benefited greatly because of that. Without this insight I'd probably be smoking only a few brands and would have missed out on trying so really amazing cigars.

Re: Puff, from Newb to Aficionado

IMHO, there will never be a "Bible" of cigar smoking. Actually, if you really read it, The Bible, isn't really a "bible", at least not in the way we like to borrow the term. It's simply a collection of experiences and outcomes. Decisions that worked well and decisions that went tragically aray. Not a whole lot of actual "religion" in it, at all.

Same with cigars. So much is so tremendously subjective. So much is based on the experience of the individual, or a small sampling of individuals (not unlike the biblical jews) that it's nearly impossible to draw a true bulwark of cigars and cigar smoking.

Personally, I really like this aspect of cigar smoking. One man's dog rocket is another man's ambrosia. While beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, a cigars true nature is on the palate of the smoker. I don't care what anyone says, my experience with XXXX will forever remain my own; my own truly unique and pleasurable experience.

It's a worthy project, to be sure. As to whether is could ever possibly become a "Bible"?...

It isn't for reviewing stuff and sharing opinions. Its for facts. Cover a history of cigars, cigar shapes and sizes, types of tobacco, growing and aging the tobacco, rolling the tobacco, countries known for tobacco.

Those are just some things off the top of my head.

This forum has been great for me but a cigar wiki would be cool for common info newbies alway need to learn. Kind of a glorified sticky or somthing heheh.

Yep, it could be fleshed out a bit more but it's a start

Hi, it would be great if the English Cigar Wiki could be "fleshed out". As a Swiss aficionado (and founder of the Wiki) I have written a pretty lot for the German part. The English one is - as you wrote - just a start. It has to be continued by native speaking English writers. If somebody is interested, just go on with the content.

Best
Hans

Jeez, Gary, thanks a lot. I think.
