Revisited an Oliva Series G

Ive had two of these in the humi for like 2 years now....leftovers from a box I went through really quick. WOW! age does wonders for these. I mean they were always good but now they are just really really smooth and not one hint of anything harsh or tangy. I was so blown away I decided to buy a box. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE PRICE? The robusto used to be down around $45 a box. Now its $95!!! I just about crapped. Did SCHIP do this? I was so dissapointed when i saw the price. I can buy alot better cigar than the G for $95 bucks. I checked a couple different websites too and all the prices are just about the same.

Re: Revisited an Oliva Series G

Yeah, I noticed that the Olivas went up in price this spring too. Used to be able to get a good deal on 5'ers from Famous, but they have gone up a couple bucks.
In terms of your aging them, I had some for about a year, and had the same experience with the natural and maduro G's--fantastic with a bit of time on them. Still, great cigar for the money.

Atlantic shows them for about $70 with a free Oliva 4 pack. Cheapest I've seen.

Atlantic had a sweet deal earlier this summer on the special G. I should have pulled the trigger on these!

Re: Revisited an Oliva Series G

I paid around $55 for a box of Serie G maduro Churchills on a special from an online vendor about six months ago. SCHIP has been blamed for a lot of things, but with a maximum of 40 cents per stick tax it only adds $7 to a box of 20 (five cents of that was already in place before the increase).

Another cigar I noticed that DOUBLED in price was the Isla Del Sol

If you buy the Oliva G in 5 packs from famous you can get it pretty cheap.

http://www.famous-smoke.com/oliva+se...ars/item+23743

5x packs of 5 = a box. About $60.00

The maduro more expensive though.

Re: Revisited an Oliva Series G

It's higher that you're talking about, but Atlantic Cigar has the Serie G maduro Churchill for $72.90 for a box of 25 - and they throw in an Oliva four-pack with the purchase.

Re: Revisited an Oliva Series G

wow thats $30 cheaper than Famous or CI. I wonder why Famous sells robusto 5 packs for $12 and a box for $93? you are basically paying $30 for the box.

Re: Revisited an Oliva Series G

Yanno, you guys are so great! I have recently become (last year and a half) a die hard Oliva fan. I've been thinking that the O's and G's smoke like they could benefit from some age; great, enjoyable flavors, but a little disjointed. Age will tend to "marry" them and I think there's enough strength there such that age won't mellow it into a panty-waist. The V, on the other hand... yummmm, those things are just perfect ROTT.
If I can keep my grubby hands off the ones I already have and pick up several more from my B&M's stockpile, I'd really love to get a year or so on a few.

I don't think SCHIP is responsible for the price leap. I think it's simply a matter of a great product, rediculously underpriced. While I'd never consider paying $14 for a V torpedo, I'd happily pay double for the G's that are mostly well under $4. Ok, maybe not double, but still.

Re: Revisited an Oliva Series G

Guys, these have not doubled in price. The prices that some of you are quoting are at or BELOW wholesale cost. We raised the MSRP $.40 on each stick, NO MORE. We didn't even keystone it. MSRP per stick on a G Maduro Church BEFORE state taxes is $4.65. MSRP on G Robusto is $4.15 per stick. Both of these are post $.40 increase. Blame the govt not us. The fact is that some of the prices that you all paid are absolutely absurd and aren't anywhere near close to retail. The reason they went up is likely because the places selling them decided to make some money, lol.
