Whats your method of lighting cigars?

Ok this is what I do, I use my gigantic Perdomo Thundra lighter (triple flame) and toast the cigar for about 10 seconds in a circular pattern then blow on the end of the cigar and repeat the 10 second circular pattern until I see no black spots of unlit tobacco then take my first draw.

Anything you see wrong with this? Just curious how you guys light up???

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I just put the cigar up to my mouth and light it up! Once in awhile I'll toast the foot and then light. Either way, it tastes the same.

I pretty much do it the same as you, but... I will rotate & light after I get it going, & then gently blow outwards to purge a little of the ka-ka out of it before I take the first draw.

If I'm really enjoying it, i'll purge it again towards the end if if needs it... to nub that bad boy!!!

I was under the impression that purging a cigar takes away some of the good taste as well, but as a beginning smoker I don't really know.

Anyways, I enjoy toasting my cigar out of my mouth and then taking a puff only when I see the end is good and white.

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I have read a lot of articles about this and they say when you light a cigar the flame should never touch the actual cigar,,,apply the flame at a 45 degree angle and rotate while ( toasting ) the foot and get it to where the foot is red and then blow on the end so as to keep it like a cherry. This takes about a good minute of your time but it is worth it. Once lit then draw the smoke into your mouth. I will also use a cedar strip which catches the hint of the cedar taste while drawing lightly so as not to overpower the lighting process and overhead the tobacco. I use to just light up the cigar with a torch and draw like it was a milkshake and that just burns the tobacco,,,doing it right does make a difference in the quality of the cigar,,,since you pay that much for one might as well get as much pleasure of the tobacco as you can.

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I toast and light my cigar with the smallest amount of flame touching it as possible. I don't have the patience to light it without the flame actually touching the cigar. I toast the foot for 5-10 seconds, then take a couple puffs and use the exhale to blow on the cherry to get it started. Then I'll twist and puff while holding the torch to it to make sure it's good and lit. I don't like toasting it for too long because I just don't like the idea of all that heat "traveling" up the sides of the wrapper heating up the rest of the cigar. To me, this is especially true when using matches. Maybe I'm just weird

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I personally have never found any extra satisfaction out of toasting before.
I just let the flame fly and puff.

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I use only wooden matches, I hold the cigar at a 45 degree angle with the flame just below the foot of the cigar. Then I rotate the cigar as I toast the foot, take a gentle puff to get things going, one purge puff, & if all is well I smoke away!

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I always toast before actually lighting. I dont find that it does anything for the flavor, just simply ensures a better, more even light. I use a triple flame torch and with smaller RG's and sticks that are a little on the dry side (62-65%) I often find that the foot is sufficiently lit just by the toasting. If I took a matter of minutes to light, I'd have to refill my torch, maybe twice. When accessible, I will toast with the torch and then light with a soft flame. This is actually my prefered method, but not always available.

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I use wooden matches as much as possible but I don't mind using a torch either when one is available (haven't gotten one yet). But I pretty much just strike the match and light up. Never understood the idea of toasting the foot but maybe I'm just uneducated on the matter. Either way I still enjoy my 'gars!

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I toast, blow gently on the end, toast, blow gently on the end and continue until the cigar is lit. I then set it down and let it relax for about 1 minute before I start smoking it. Usually takes me about 2 - 3 minutes to start smoking from clip to first puff.

I just put it in my mouth and light away! I don't do anything special like "toasting" the foot or any of that stuff.

Re: Whats your method of lighting cigars?

I use a method shown me by the friend that turned me on to cigar's.
SImple cheep lighter used to light a piece of cedar.
Then toast the foot slowly until red and take the first puff.
Takes time, but again, part of the enjoyment and relaxation.
If I smoked everyday, or multiples everyday like some, I probably would find a much more effecient and faster method...
