Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

Actually, the practice dates back 200+ years. Before the days of a thousand vitolas, a lot of cigars just came long and skinny. People would whack them off to whatever size they wanted, or had time to smoke. I've never seen it done with churchills, but lanceros, sure.

Gives me an idea for next Opus A, lmao

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

This make's no sense to me at all. If you want a short smoke, just smoke it until you can't smoke any more. Dont' cut it down to a small size.

What a crying shame, tell him to buy smaller cigars & stop wasting churchills!

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

I've got a friend who does that. He used to chew Kodiak. Now he chews on a chunk of a cigar occasionally. He doesn't smoke.

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

Seen it, and had to use pectin on the foot half to stop the unravel. Oh Well.

How ever there are Italian cigars called Tosconi, Toscano and Tosconelli that are made to be cut in half.

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

I have done this once before. It was with a puros indios presidente. I knew I didn't have time to smoke a whole one so I cut it in half. Not something I normally do, but I only $1 for it and wasn't too worried about it.

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

Oneoff also made a long perfecto at one time thats was suppose to be cut in half, so both ends where closed heads with the foot of both cigars being the cut. Yes I smoked one and it was very bad!

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

That doesn't make any sense at all. If he wanted a smaller cigar, then he should've just bought a shorter one or smoked it until he couldn't smoke it anymore.

Do fine scotch drinkers feel this way when they see somebody put their 20 year old single malt on ice or mix it with water?

Water or ice is well known to bring out the best parts of good scotch/whiskey. Many, many reviewers of fine whiskeys recommend adding water (purified/distilled)-- granted it's in small amounts, like a few drops. A lot of whiskeys have even been shipped with eye-droppers for just that use. The key is to not use too much. It opens up the nose of the whiskey, it saves your palate from going into a kind of 'taste shock' from high proof whiskey, and helps distinguish different flavors. Try it sometime!

-- I've never known cutting a cigar in half to improve it though.

Re: Anybody ever heard of this???

During the depression (the big one - not the current one), my grandfather could buy one large cigar for less than the price of two small ones, so he would buy the longest cigars he could find and cut them in half - doubling his smokes without doubling his cost.

Should have sold him 4 mixed filler robustos. That's pretty much what they were when he got done with them. I hope the cigars were one dimensional. If it was an LFD Double Ligero the foot end is going to be pretty strong.
