Breath in or out before puffing?

So, here is a weird question, do you:

1. Tend to breath out before puffing on your cigar, and expel the smoke with just your mouth

or

2. Breath in before puffing and then blow the smoke out with a air?


Just wondering because I usually do 1. but have recently changed to 2. so that I would have less smoke in my eyes which sometimes get irritated.

If I'm having a conversation with someone I'll usually suck in a lungful of air first, but if its just me I'll usually exhale just the smoke. I like blowing smoke rings and the such =P

I think I do both, but I do 1 more often, especially when having a conversation with someone.

I find that partially filling my lungs with air before puffing reduces the tendency for smoke to creep into my lungs. So I always take some air in before puffing. Then slowly let it out through the mouth, and toward the end some through the nose.

This may be a dumb question, but how do you let some smoke out through your nose without inhaling the smoke?

I think he ment just breath out of his nose as he exhaled, but to answer your question it would require a very precise timing of inhaling the smoke but exhaling though your nose before it reaches the lung. very tricky =D

It's called "snorking" where you draw in smoke into your mouth and let out a partial percentage of the smoke out of your nose,,,by pushing the smoke into your sinus area. The easiest way is to draw the smoke in, put your chin almost down to your chest keeping your mouth closed ( and blow out your nose,,,) Try not to blow out the whole mouthful of smoke but only about 20%.

It's not difficult. Take a breath. Hold it. Keep your mouth closed. Breath out through your nose.
This does not cause air to go into your lungs. With practice, you should be able to breath out through your mouth and nose at the same time. I usually only do this toward the end of the exhale because too much out of the nose can be a bit harsh. Sometimes I'll also hold the smoke in my mouth keeping it closed and move my tongue back and forth to cause the smoke to move around in the mouth and sinuses. Only with very little smoke left in my mouth do I do this.

I started thinking about your question and then got so confused thinking about what i do i started questioning myself! I guess I do both, I've never really paid attention to it. I do, however, "snork" my smoke toward the end of the exhale every time. Maybe 70% out of my mouth and 30% out of my nose. Here is a video on youtube of "Doc" doing it - he calls it "retrohaling"

In addition to snorking, I've also found that I can get a better appreciation of a cigar's flavor by letting the smoke drift from my mouth and not blowing it out hard and fast.

Yes, breath out, you want all this room for the voluminous cloud of smoke that is going to fill your sinus`s,

I just analyzed my technique quickly, and what I realized is that I take in a slightly lower volume of air through my nose when I`m drawing the smoke from the cigar, not much, but enough to use for pushing the smoke out once its in my head,

I also just realized that Ive been reading the term as "Snorkeling" all this time, and to me that was much easier to understand and comprehend, Snor-king and Retro-hailing both seem to really over complicate the matter, or technique.

Its funny, ex ciggy smokers usually take to this like a kitten to milk, but someone that has never smoked in their life has a hard time learning how to do it when they take up cigars and so you wind up with tutorials on how to do it, LOL. I just find that funny?

I found that if I do #1 above, I end up having some left in my mouth (about %10), then I end up breathing in and that last 10%, so I am trying to do more of #2 (no fiber needed)

lol after reading this I was questing myself, but honestly can't tell you how I do it. I just light up and start smoking. No sugar codding.
