Tobacco taxes in Ontario really drive up the prices. Arturo Fuente Brevas Royal you can get a sampler from Atlantic cigar online for $6.90 or something... at any B&M around here it's $7.00 a stick!

Huh? While I wouldn't call myself one that "bitches" about B&M prices I will say I am against the insane overpricing and order online 99% of the time. I for one am waaay against the insane prices bars charge for shots, it's crazy. Most of the time the shot costs more than the whole mixed drink, which contains at least a shot!! Where's the logic in that??

So you won't find me getting suckered paying those prices. When I go to a bar I usually drink beer anyway and the prices are generally reasonable. If I'm going to buy a mixed drink I ask the price first, cause here in Manhattan you will often find a drink costing you $12-$14!! I won't pay that, it's nuts.

Oh, and for the record I also do not buy $4 coffees! My job has coffee flowing freely so I drink what's hear at my job. At home I use my coffee machine and grinds that I bought at a coffee shop. No $4+ coffee for me thank you very much. And by the way, I'm not cheap at all... I'm just not a sucker to throw my money away to these rich idiots that rob us with these unrealistic prices.

Is it possible to order alcohol much cheaper on the internet and bring it into your local bar to drink? Doubtful. That argument is pretty weak.

How can you possibly make a statement like that? Somehow you know how much people are spending on coffee and tequila???? Perhaps you took a survey? A questionaire for the whiners?

If you value Pete Johnson's signiture, be my guest, go get one. Just speaking for myself, I'm a cigar smoker, not a groupie, but to each his own.

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it!
Glad I could be of help. I'm here all week, don't forget to tip your waitress.

One of my local B&M's sells my favorite smoke, PAM Imperials for $29.95/stick, before California tacks on its ridiculous tax rates.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

I can see why a lot of people buy cigars online, and I also get your point leafandale, but you also have deals online from time to time. It's just the way the world works today.

I am lucky because I live in Texas and as to date they don't rape us over the taxes on cigars. And being in Houston there are many good and even great local B&Ms around town. I love going to my favorite one whenever I get a chance and try to buy most of my cigars from him because he hs good prices and I want to support him as much as I can! And of course when there are events its even better because you get even better deals and get to meet the people behind the cgars. If this is truly your hobby then its not about being a groupie at all but respect for the guys that bring you you'r favorite smokes.

Not going to lie I have found some insane deals on the net and have bought them. But for me there is still nothing better then going into a great B&M with a ton of cigars and being able to walk out what you paid for in your hand, or better yet getting to smoke it there.

Like I said I am a lucky one.

Frank,
That's something I just never got......the idea that smoking a cigar was a hobby. I don't think in those terms, I just smoke cigars because I like them. So, in that sense, I could not care less about meeting the man behind the 'gars.
I'm not with the program, I guess.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

Fortunately MO has low taxes (10%). Unfortunately the closest good B&M is 35 miles away. I still like to go to a B&M and look over the inventory and purchase a few smokes that look good and I have not tried.

Once a good smoke is found, I will purchase a box on line.

Still one of my favorite hobbies is to browse a new B&M when I travel. Will always drop at least $50.

I agree with what has already been said about supporting the B&Ms. They are having really tough times with tax increases and slow economy. If their retail prices are in line, I can not fault them for adding the taxes required by law.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

Hit my local B&M for the first time. Nice place, but poor selection. Honestly, I wonder if low volume/high prices is a good business model, but...

Anyway paid 11 bucks for a RP Decade Robusto among some others. Since I'm a noob, I wonder if that's outrageous.

That research of how cigar smokers who shop online spend their money at other establishments is really some good stuff. You should write a book with that kind of evidence.

Thats cool by me, we are all different. And I smoke cigars because I like them too, thats why they are a hobby. But I know what you mean because I like Bourbon but its not my hobby. But since you are a member on a cigar forum I do have to guess that you like knowing good info about cigars and maybe even the different types of tobacco etc... Well depending on who is at the event you can learn a hell of a lot of info about cigars.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

I think that Stick prices are very relative. Last night I spent almost $50 for a single Cohiba Siglo VI in Okinawa Japan. For me the price was right, but I am sure that most of the rest of the world will think that is wwwaaayyy too expensive. The bar was a fantastic place with Genuine Cuban's in great abundance. I drank a home-brewed Indian Pale Ale with excellent flavor in the bar along with the stick.
