Most Outrageous B&M Prices

Well I am not here to complain I was just interested in anyone else who had a story about the crazy prices they have seen at any B&M. It is fun to be able to walk in and buy a cigar every now and then, but I am on a fairly tight budget so I usally buy in bundles or cheap boxes online.

Anyway, I remember seeing JM's Domincan at one of my local shops and I looked them up online and they got some good reviews. So I go in to pick out one. I am not sure of the sizes, but I think it was a Churchill box and a Robusto box...each stick was priced at $7.99!!!! LOL. Needles to say I didn't buy one. I think I will just order a box online and take my chanes.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

I took a loan from Bernie Maddoff one time to buy some Ashton ESG's.

j/k the shops around here acually have very good prices, which is surprising since this is a tourist town.

SCHIP did not help local B&M's. I find myself buying more from online sites instead of my local B&M. I simply get more for my money online.

Yea I hear you. It really is frustrating. I pass the shop a lot when I am in town, but with these prices I can only afford the cheapest of the cheap if I buy local.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

Just a pinch of advice. We'd all better continue to support our B&M's. They are the cornerstone of the industry and without them, you will never try a new single. Since the SCHIT tax, most B&M's have realized that it was going to impact their box sales and it has. Most astute B&M's have increased their singles inventory (ordering less of more brands and vitola) and reduced their big bulk box inventories. People, we need these guys as much as they need us! Just think! If there are no more B&M's, where are you gonna get butane? Buy a can for $2.95 and pay a $20 HAZMAT fee? How are you ever gonna try a new release from Cusano, or Fuente? Buy a single cigar for $5 and pay another $5 in shipping? Come on.

I try to level my purchases equally between my online bulk purchases and my B&M singles. I know that I need my B&M and the benefits are irreplacable.

I get really annoyed when people only think of economics and market indecies while they are balancing their own check books.

Where will we be in 5yrs? Will I read on some forum somewhere how some one has discovered that they can buy a pint of Haagen Das for 14% cheaper ONLINE?

My B&M charges $25.99 plus NY tax for an Opus that should be around $13.00. Should I buy them there? I don't think so.

Own a B&M or something. Open your eyes a little bit to what people are going through when BALANCING their CHECK BOOKS.

Maybe you can afford to pay 700% Markup on a cigar and overpay $80 dollars for a box, but the fact is some people can't. So should they just not be able to enjoy cigars because they don't support the outrageous prices of the B&M. It sucks they took a hit from SCHIP Maybe the SCHIP will be the downfall of B&M's, it doesn't mean you should feel guilty for not being able to afford to buy local.

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

yeah Schip hurt my friends B&M too, thing is the boxes before schip tax, were still selling for old price. So i bought a lot of sticks for old price, and he opened new boxes of nub! guess how much is my favorite short smoke now? From 5,50$ to 7$! I thought 5.50$ was a little too much for nub, and now7$ is way too much! Plus they get box for wholesale price which is 69,95$ which is like 3$ a stick! They could at least sell em for 5$? or am I wrong? do they really have to sell em for that much?

Re: Most Outrageous B&M Prices

I do believe we need to support B&M's, but some people like myself cannot afford it. I have bought a lot off the internet the past week or so just because the prices are so much cheaper. However, today I went to my local B&M and instead of bringing my own cigar, I bought one of theirs. That is about as much support as I can give in these tough economic times.
