Flor de Oliva Robusto - Why'd I wait so long!

I finally got around to trying this sucker that I received from doubledown on the newb PIF over on the other site when I first got started up back in September last year.

Why'd I wait so damn long!

I'm putting this in the general cigar discussion because I don't know if this quick little blurb qualifies as a review but I thought I'd share anyway. And ask some ?'s.

This cigar was sweet on the lips in prelight, lit up well and smoked even all the way through. The thing retained its sweetness on the lips almost all the way through and the taste, well, it was pretty damn delicious & consistent all the way through. And not sweet in smoking it...just on the lips. Do you folks get the same with this one as I did? I also noticed a bit of a punch at the end...do they have a tendency to give you a nicotine smack or am I just crazy? (don't answer that)

And under $1.50/a stick? Are you kidding me???

So what's the deal with this cigar...I'm trying to find some info but not really coming up with any....is this Oliva's red-headed stepchild? Why isn't information on this cigar on their website? Everywhere else claims that this is the product of the Oliva family but then it's not on their website. What's the deal?

I've tried the Corojo and it's got some umph! I like full flavored/full bodied and this one was a great surprise. Where do you get it for under 1.50??? My B+M has it for like 2.75-3.50!!!!!!

No doubt!!! I'd like to know too!!! I'd buy a bundle of em for that!!!

Only thing I don't like about this stick, is the horrible looking band. But for the price... Guess I can look past that.
I swear I'm not unpatriotic... It does make it very noticable.

Has any body tried the maduro??? How's it compare to the others???

Sorry for the threadjack reindeer...

Re: Flor de Oliva Robusto - Why'd I wait so long!

The Natural has a sweetend cap that gives you that quick burst of sugar on your lips. Ive gone through many bundles of these babies. Robusto and Torpedos are my favs. Famous and CI usually have the cheapest prices on these. If you watch Cbid they very rarely ever have a Buy it now price and people bid them up past the normal CI price.

Re: Flor de Oliva Robusto - Why'd I wait so long!

Yes Oliva does make them, why they are not on their website I don't know. A Oliva cigar rep told me a while back (he is no longer a cigar rep for Oliva) that he didn't know why Oliva keep making them and selling them at the price they do, because they don't make any money on them. But I guess thats a good thing for us that they keep doing it.

Re: Flor de Oliva Robusto - Why'd I wait so long!

Thanks Frank....yeah, strange...I wonder if these are seconds or anything like that or their own line...and I'm definitely glad they make 'em...gets Oliva's name out there I guess and folks aware of them so that they might be interested in the premiums as the next step. Sorta like the entry-level BMW 1-Series or the 'ol 318ti or the 'lil Mercedes hatchback.

Re: Flor de Oliva Robusto - Why'd I wait so long!

i dont think these are seconds. Obviously a great cigar for the price. I know Oliva has their hands on many cigars that they really dont advertise that they make. Sol Cubana for instance.

Great to hear this commentary on the Flor de Oliva. I have a fiver resting in the humi right now.

Has anyone tried these without resting them for too long?

Re: Flor de Oliva Robusto - Why'd I wait so long!

ive smoked em right outta the bundle....not bad but they really benefit from some age. Ive got about a dozen natural torpedos left that have been sitting for almost 2 years now. Need to pull one out and try it.
