A bit confused
Been smoking for a few months now, and all of a sudden seem to be confused Been trying many different types and brands. I really liked the Acid Blondies at first but the more of them I smoke it seems the less I like them. Alot of the other sticks I have been buying seem to all taste similar. I have been buying Fuenta Curly heads
Baccarat Churchill Olivia Serie O Montesino Cao Gold Montechristo White Can't seem to find one I like and want to stick with. Any suggestions. Should I stick with one kind for a bit. I think sometimes I smoke to fast and thats the reason. I hope this makes sense. LOL |

Re: A bit confused
The main problem probably is the smoking too fast. When you do this all you are tasting is hot, harsh tobacco. That would account for them tasting the same.
Try slowing down to 1 puff every minute or so. This will give the tobacco time to cool and let the flavors develop.

Re: A bit confused
+1 at what MaduryLover said.
Also, how are you lighting your cigar? Are you quickly huffing and puffing on the cigar trying to get it to light as soon as the flame hits the cigar? If this is the case may I suggest just torching the foot with a torch lighter until it is evenly lit. Then take one slow puff to make sure it the whole foot of the cigar is lit. Once the cigar is lit, let it cool down a minute as Madurolover mentioned. After the waiting period, smoke away. |

Re: A bit confused
I would suggest picking ONE brand and sticking to it for a while. Something cheap but good. Once you become accustomed to what a specific cigar tastes like, you will immediately notice differences when you go to smoke different brands.
Kind of hard for me to explain. |

Re: A bit confused
+2 w/ Maduro Lover...
It was only a few months ago since this changed as I also tended to smoke too fast w/o realizing it!!! I could finish a cigar in 20-30 minutes!!! Cigars all started to taste the same and had a tastebud blow-out... My second HUGE mistake was smoking cigars I ordered the same day they arrived without letting them rest at least a few days, and my humidor at the time was at 74% humidity, too high IMO now, especially when the cigars are over humidified as it is when ordering online, A good week or two is better between 65-70 rh... Take a few days off, and next time you light up, remind yourself to relax, puff slower and take your time smoking. Set a time limit of an hour and try to make it... I bet it will taste better and be more enjoyable!!! |

Re: A bit confused
The best thing to do is keep up what you're doing.
Try try try and keep notes, mental or otherwise. Then eventually slowly but surely you'll notice that the ones you like will have something in common. They'll either all be full bodied or all mild or they'll all have a certain wrapper or a certain filler and then you can use those criteria to find new smokes that you'll have a good chance of liking. Eventually you'll find a favorite just give it some time.

Re: A bit confused
We all go through this! (least I did). Just keep at it and you will get over the hump, no kidding. While I agree with MaduroLover in principle I don't exactly agree with the one puff a minute thing. Definitely make sure you're not smoking them too fast. But a puff every 30-45 seconds or so isn't really an issue. Any sooner and you are going to fast.
Seriously, keep trying different cigars. I hit a rut where a lot tasted all the same but read some threads here on peoples favorites and suggestions for "unique" cigars which helped a ton! Have you yet tried?: Padron (any) Joya De Nicragua (any) La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero (strong smoke though!) Rockey Patel The Edge Each of those is unique in their own right and do NOT taste like any of the others listed... well... ok... the Joya De Nicaragua Celebracion tastes slightly similar to Padron, but it's still unique as are all the others. Re: A bit confused
I would not try sticking to one cigar for now, until you sample what is available, and learn what you like. Pay attention to what the constituent tobaccos are of the cigars you smoke, and note what you like, and do not like. I personally prefer Nicaraguan puros with a corojo wrapper. Some decent cigars you should try are:
Tatuaje-- Brown (cabinet) and Red (Havana VI) Illusione any Oliva--G and V Padron--thousand series, 1926 and 1964 Padilla-- any DPG--Blue and Black (Cuban Classic) Arturo Fuente--Hemingway, Don Carlos, Anejo, and Opus only. EO 601--Blue and Green La Riqueza--any Good luck. |

Re: A bit confused
Several of the cigar you mentioned have a Connecticut wrapper and they will have similar taste and strength profile. Try different wrappers: corojo, sumatra and cameroon are my favorites. Habano is another excelent wrapper. With a few exceptions, I am not much of a maduro fan. Like anythig else, it takes time and experience to develop your own taste and to detect subtle differences within the different smokes.
A trip to your local B&M along with some suggestions from your friend, the tobacconist, might be all you need to keep going strong in this wonderful hobby... Jorge

![]() As I said before, I used to smoke thru a cigar pretty quick only a few months back and then I realized it was ruining the entire flavor of the cigar and the overall experience... If you like maduro's give the Gurkha Double Maduro a try, you won't be disappointed!!! It is very smooth, and has notes of rich dark chocolate and espresso... |

Re: A bit confused
Try try try.... then try some more! I keep a few cigars in the humi that I know I like, but when I buy new ones I usually like to try something different and buy just a few singles at a time! Half the fun for me is discovering that next new smoke that I'll really like and stick a 5er of 'em in the humi!

Re: A bit confused
Good advice above! I would modify the puff/minute rule by adding "series" of puffs. Ex: I will hit the thing maybe 5-6x then set it down to rest for a minute. Feel with your fingers about 3/4" behind the burn ring. If it's hot, youre going too fast. Some cigars dissipate heat at different rates and it's the heat, not the watch, which should be your guide. That said, the minute rule is never a bad thing.
Find a cigar you really like. Buy a 5 pack. Smoke two, and let three of them sit around for at least a few months. Go back to it and see a) if indeed you still like it and b) how it's changed. Once you've determined that you really like a stick, buy a box. Smoke half and let the other half sit around for a year, or even more. Talk to the guys in your local B&M's. It's pretty easy to tell who knows their stuff and who's full of dookie. Make some time to smoke the occasional stick there and get opinions from fellow smokers. That's the best way and place to try new stuff, since it's a constant environment and you can get others opinions and compare with what youre experiencing. Three of your list, while not my personal taste, I consider to be pretty good smokes. The CAO, Monte and Oliva are all good. The CAO and Monte are quite mild, but still satisfy even once your flavor preference turns to stronger stuff. Those are three you could invest in a box of and know you will still enjoy down the road. Happy Huffing
