Rookie Question

I smoked my first cigar in about two years last night. It was a Punch maduro. Just the regular ol' Punch. I also had a couple of beers and a healthy shot of Chivas 12 before I went out to smoke. I Had another normal shot of scotch as I smoked.

Now, it was tasty, but darn I was buzzing hard about 15 minutes after I finished the cigar. Is that normal? I realize the scotch and beer probably helped. Also, do you build up resistance like you do with alcohol? I think next time I may try smoking without that booze to see what its like.

Thanks for taking time to reassure a poor ol' noob.

Re: Rookie Question

The "buzz" effect you feel was probably from the nicotine content. (although I'm sure the alcohol didn't hurt) Some cigars cause that effect. I have never had it happen with a punch, but I started with milder cigars and worked my way up to stronger ones.
I have had one cigar do this recently and it was a onyx reserve. It didn't fell that strong while I was smoking it but, when I stood up I felt it. One thing you might try is to not smoke a fuller bodied cigar on an empty stomach, that seems to help

Re: Rookie Question

I definitely know what you are talking about. One of the first cigars I smoked blew me and my friend over and had me feeling sick for at least an hour. Now, that same cigar is one of my favorites!

To curb the effects you may also want to try a sugary drink, as I have been told by other members that this keeps the edge off a nicotine buzz.

Re: Rookie Question

Over time you will build up a tolerance to nicotine.

Re: Rookie Question

I figured as much. I felt great until I stood up. Then it was about 70% this feels good and 30% I could puke. Crawling into bed helped a lot. I will definitely try the next one without all the booze, at least until I build up a little tolerance.

I had a cigar a couple years back a friend brought back from Mexico that had originated on an island to remain unnamed, or so I was told. I woke up in the middle of the night and felt like I was gonna puke. I assumed it was the cigar, but I don't know if it was because it was so good due to its origin or so bad because it was a fake.

I was hoping to get a few mild to medium cigars, but my B&M had a pretty limited selection and I had no idea what was what. Would of been nice to have an iPhone and the Puff app.
