Finding a daily smoker

How about I start with a little bit of a back story.

I have smoked cigarettes for many years, topping out at 3 packs a day. As of 1 month ago I put them down and have not had a cigarette since. I have, however, smoked a cigar or two a day. Usually 1 after lunch and one in the evening after dinner. I have smoked cigars for years and have enjoyed to wonderful flavors that come with a good cigar.

Taking a look at my humidor and my wallet I realized that smoking 10$ cigars twice a day was getting costly So I began looking for something to call my daily smoke. I have grabbed a few of the buck a stick specials from CI and have added new flavors to my cigar pallet, who could have guessed that hay, cut grass, and dirt can be used to describe the flavors from a cigar!
So there are a couple of questions I have for my cigar smoking brothers. First what are some good, low cost, daily smoke?
Second, is I have noticed that some cheep cigars seem to have what I am calling an acid twang to them. They burn the lips and if I chew the nub for a while they will burn the side of my tung. I only seem to notice this in the light connecticut wrapered cigars. What causes this? Better yet, is this something that will go away with age?

Re: Finding a daily smoker

Try the Ashton Benchmade. These are blended by Don Pepin Garcia and are affordale. You may also want to look into some of the Famous Smoke Shop house blends.

I would guess that the stinging is from a high nicotine content but I could be wrong.

Re: Finding a daily smoker

If you want a great mild bodied cigar that has a lot of flavor and is a light and easy smoke with superb draw, I highly recommend the Rocky Patel Signature series Toro.

Can be had in a box of 20 for about $100 (or cheaper sometimes, I got mine for less than $70 on the Devil's site). Yea, $5/stick or so still isnt THAT cheap, but its half of what you're paying now it seems, so you can double your pleasure

I've had 3 of them in the last 2 weeks, and quickly becoming a favorite of mine to smoke during the day. Silky smooth with an even burn every time. I think I'll do a more in depth review soon.

Re: Finding a daily smoker

It might sound crazy but I have really been enjoying the Padilla Hybrid Robusto. I think you can get a box online for $60 / box. $3 / stick is better than $10 considering your situation. I'm trying to put the cigarettes down too.

I like the natural La Gloria Wavells for an anytime smoke. Another one that's really inexpensive but I enjoy are the Bauza's from Mike's cigars. One of the Bauza's got a 90's rating from CA a few years back.

Re: Finding a daily smoker

Congratulations on putting down the cigarettes, I did the same thing about a year ago...

The Padron 0000 series, Flor de oliva, and benchmades as mentioned are good budget smokes. Lots of them out there you'll find what you like, and good cigars dont have to cost ten dollars a piece.

Not a cigar, but something I discovered when I put down cigarettes, was Prince Albert and a cob pipe... check it out.

Re: Finding a daily smoker

My favorite inexpensive smoke at the moment is the Famous Smokeshop Dominican 1000. Sumatra wrapper. Not complex but very nice for a low cost smoke in a mild to medium. Construction is adequate, as is draw. About $30/bundle of 20. Less off cigar auctioneer.

I like the Gurkha Park Avenue, which can be had for $37-42 for 20 of them.

Good any time of the day smoke for sure.

I think the Benchmade is a very good cheaper cigar, good flavor. The profile reminds me of the Pepin blended Padill 1932. Of course not as good but does remind me of it. I need to pick me up another box. My B&M carries them from $57.95 to $64.95 in boxes of 25.

Also Pepin has the new Tabacos Baez Short Filler. I have not tried this cigar yet but the reg line is a very tasty med body smoke, I really enjoy it! Boxes of 20 from $49.95 to $51.95

Re: Finding a daily smoker

The two cigars that I have been enjoying lately are the Nica Libre principes, which I was able to purchase a box for $37.00 for a box of 20 and the Sol Cubano Series B, which I got a bundle of 20 for $24.00. Both of these were purchased on the devil site(cigarbid). Both of these cigars are far better than many higher priced cigars that I have smoked.

Re: Finding a daily smoker

Look on:
joecigar.com (a Cigar International site)
cigarmonster.com (a Famous Smoke Shop site)

They offer daily deals on deeply discounted cigars & both offer free shipping.

I smoke 3-4 cigars a day so I'm having fun trying out less expensive cigars.
I smoke a lot of bundles from Famous Smoke Shop, including their Famous
Nicaraugan 2000 & 3,000, 4,000, the 2,000 being my personal favorite. They can be had for as low as a buck a stick when they're offerd on cigarmonster.
My favorite under $3.00 stick by a wide margin is the Perdomo ESV 91 Seconds. CI sells them for $40.00 for 15 but they are occasionaly on joe cigar.com for less.
If you search this site you'll find many threads on cheaper cigars.

OK, do the Nica Libres taste anything like Padron's as advertised?

Most reviews I have read of them (probably 10 - 15) says they are not very good. Of course if you buy into the advertising that they taste like a Padron then you are more than likely setting your sights way too high and are likely to be disappointed.
