Here you go most companies go to great lengths to make sure this does not happen:

I was going to post an in depth reply but your link says pretty much everything I was going to so

I will add though that vendors use several methods to prevent beetles - aluminum phosphide, freezing, and vacuum chambers. Apparently putting the tobacco in a chamber and totally depressurizing it causes the microscopic eggs to explode, at least so I've read.

As for flavor, there's no way microscopic beetle eggs would have any effect on the cigars flavor.

Re: cigar beetles

someone stated that flavored cigars do not get beetle outbreaks, and i personally have seen that this statement is not true. in one of my local b&m's i found a box of flavored cao "karmasutra splash" cigars, all full of beetle holes.
i actually had a conversation with a tobacconist last night, and he told me that there are larvae in basically all cigars, but that there are measures taken to prevent them from hatching before the cigar gets to the hands of a consumer.
as for them effecting the taste of a cigar, im going to agree with what others have said, i highly doubt that they would have any effect on the taste of a cigar.

Re: cigar beetles

well I was really hoping that the eggs were a rare thing in cigars, its looking more like eggs are just a part of the tobacco world and the hatching is what needs to be controlled. there's just so many questions I have about how why and where these things come from, it doesn't seem like we have this information other than the opinions of very knowledgeable people who probably get their knowledge from the opinions of others. All Im saying is we can only speculate unless we have actual scientific evidence to support our claims. so who knows?

Re: cigar beetles

Although after even more further reading it seems the article in CA has some pretty good advice.

Anybody who's actually hatched some bugs, post up.
I have had one outbreak. The cigars they ate (and presumably came from) were among those that had been in my humidor the longest. They hit the perfect storm of humidity and temperature. My humidity was about three points higher than usual, and the temp in the humidor hit the magic 80 degrees. It probably isn't significant, but all five of the sticks they got were Rocky Patel blends (four Indian Tabac and one Vintage 1990).

Re: cigar beetles

I guess I'm just waiting for a beetle outbreak =\. My humi constantly sees temps of over 80... I do keep my humidity at a constant 65 +- 3 though...

Re: cigar beetles

as far as i know every cigar has cigar beetles dormant in them but as long as they're not alive. Im always freaked out thou that wenn I pull out a stogie they might be no longer dormant and just crawling around in and about the cigar and hav yet not risen to the surface and while i smoke dem they do rise outta of the stogie and crawl out eww..haha that right there would sadly stop my cigar smoking
