Question Drew Estates "Egg"

On the Monster now...$9.98...(2:00-3:00 Mtn)

Does anybody like this thing? I can't seem to work up an affinity for it, even as a collectors item.

I thought about getting it, just as a conversation piece. Can't seem to pull the trigger though, just seems an all around waste of money.

Its mostly just an unique experience type of deal. An achievement of sorts. 110 ring gauge I believe?

Haven't read any reviews on em really, but don't expect anyone to smoke these often.

Re: Drew Estates "Egg"

I got one months ago. I grabbed the Maduro one thinking that it would taste like the ACID "Nasty" but I later found out its a "natural" cigar.... Its sitting in the bottom of my humi aginf for when ever I have THREE to FOUR hours to smoke it. Thats what the fella at my local B&M told me the average time on it is... It did come in a interesting coffin thats displayed on my "display" shelf that runs around the top of my bedroom. I got it for around $10 and have seen them as much as $15. You can get then around $10/12 all day so not much a deal.....

I basically got it for the "conversation" piece aspect. Next is the Puros Indios Especial Chief, its a 66RG and 18" long.... I want it for the conversation piece of it too. Just will spent my $20 on better before I make that jump on that one. Puros Indios Especial Chief Cigars - BestCigarPrices.com

Seems like a gimmick... I would only smoke one if it was a freebie or really inexpensive...

It is an interesting piece. Huge rg in the middle. I have been aging 2 or them for about a year. Haven't smoked one yet. At that price shipped it a good deal.

Re: Drew Estates "Egg"

I've smoked 3 or 4 of the Eggs, not bad but not great either, just kind of meh. The middle section gets pretty wicked, since you really have to huff to keep it burning. The big issue is wrapper construction, when you have RG that big, the wrapper suffers. Jon Drew said it was made for a 2 hr smoke of course YMMV.

I've also had 3 or 4 Medusa's, there again not bad but not great. But if you want to try a Culebra on the cheap($12 or so) its not to bad.

Sidenote, If you get the PI Chief get the Maddie, the natural wrapper just isn't strong enough for the cigar IMO. I've had 2 each of the Nats and Maddies, and by far the maddies held up the best. If you do smoke one be prepared to have PLENTY to drink, that thing will make you think you've walked across the Gobi on your hands and knees. I drank 2 two liter bottles of Coke when I tried my first Chief (about the same for every one after as well!).
Also set a side a LONGGGGGG time to devote to it, my shortest time smoking one was 3hrs and 45 minutes(Natural), and I still had at least 5 inches left but the wrapper at the head was worn out! The longest time was the Maduro- 5hrs 20 mins and had about 4 inches left.

Oh, and by the way after smoking the Chief, the next morning my mouth felt like it had been run over by a Mack truck!

Re: Drew Estates "Egg"

The Egg is simply brutal to smoke in the middle - the nicotine high nearly killed me at the 110 ring gauge midway point.

Take my advice, don't smoke it...

Re: Drew Estates "Egg"

I had to let the "egg" slide by, just didn't pique my interest enough. I did manage to snag one of Drew's culebra's, the "Medusa" though. I'm excited for it to arrive, but don't really plan on smoking that one either.

Re: Drew Estates "Egg"

I actually was able to smoke half of an Egg Maduro. I thought it was okay. If the blend was in or around the Toro size, I'm sure it would have been better. Like someone else said, I had a hell of a time keeping it going once it hit the egg. Even though I was just smoking it for the hell of it, it was an okay cigar...even half of it was almost too much for me though!
