Boycott Altadis!

I don't smoke any Altadis products anyway...at least not ones that can be bought here in the U.S. !

As an aside, when the embargo is over and Cubans come to the U.S., they are going to get a massive facelift and that's going to be a shame. Fancypants bands, ritzy boxes, etc. The U.S. market is so used to better-quality "extras" that I can see a lot of brands getting re-done or phased out.

Guys, Please....This rumor has spread like wild fire.
There is no pending suit.
I have only been sent a letter of objection for the use of the Fleur and my lawyers are looking into it to see what is the best way to handle the situation. As you probably can understand, I have a ton of money invested into my brands and to have to change everything will cost a lot. I would prefer the issue just go away but we will see.

Tattoo, I have a few and some of the cigars also, but have never smoked one.
I have yet to hear a bad thing about them though so the guy must be donig something right.

Well, they have no legal case whatsoever. The symbol is a symbol that is not owned by any one person or company. Montecristo didn't invent it so there is nothing for Tat to worry about other than a sore company. But as said, it's best not to jump the gun and call for a boycott and all that.

i also would not call for a boycott, but there is only one cigar that is Altadis that i would smoke anyway: Onyx Reserve. and even that is not a cigar that i lust after.


altadis is also printing posters on how to spot "counterfeit Montecristos"

the posters have these quotes:
"Both "cuban replicas" and "authentic cuban" cigars are counterfeit"

"the words "habana", "havana", "cuba", or derivations thereof are probably cause that the cigars are counterfeit."






so the long and short of it is that Altadis is saying that their mediochre Montes are "real" and the and the genuine cuban Montecristos that are actually good are fake.

Since Altadis owns half of Habanos SA, you can, by this reasoning, only smoke half a cuban. Im not sure which half Altadis owns, but if it comes down to it and you have to cut them in half. Send me the foot halves as I have no problem smoking Altadis products.
I think that sending Tat a desist letter is silly, since some form of that symbol has been used by nearly all cultures since there were, umm... cultures. Even its stylized form, as we see it today, dates back to the merovingian kings, when Clovis adopted it for the crest of his shield. It appeared in paintings, refering to the Virgin Mary, for centuries before that. Point being, if there is anything that is public domain, it's the Fluer de Lis. Altadis attempting to establish exclusivity, simply because it occurs on a cigar is ludicrous.

If I look at three bands at a glance, Monte, Padron and Tat, I can't tell them apart; with or without the Fluer. Maybe Altadis should go after the color brown instead.
