An Amazing Birthday Story...

My birthday was in July and several of my cigar friends wanted to celebrate with me. I decided to go to Corona Cigar (Dr. Phillips) in Orlando. I frequent there and it is one of my favorite places to enjoy a cigar. We get 2 tables together outside so we can watch the show while enjoying our cigars. The show is amazing rare cars one after another rolling by. Maserati, Bently, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Rolls Limo, high end Audi, you get the idea. I have no idea where these people come from, one after another just about any time, any day. I decided to enjoy a Casa Magna.

Well, Avo Uvezian from of course Avo Cigars also frequents Corona. We have had the opportunity to talk several times in a casual setting without numerous people vying for his attention like a an event. During certain months he basically hangs out there daily enjoying cigars. My friend asks him if he would like to join us and he does. Some people know that Avo was a musician most of his life and became involved with the tobacco business later on. Avo went to Juliard and performs jazz piano regularly. I've always wanted to talk music with him. We had a great time laughing, telling stories, and enjoying like. What a beautiful human being, very modest in all ways with numerous fascinating stories, fluent in 5 languages that I know of. My main instrument is violin and he starts telling a story about beginning violin 70 years ago... We talked for over an hour.

He always carries the same 20 ct humidor with him. I removed the band on my Casa Magna and he asked what I was smoking, I answer. He says "Awe yes my good friend makes that cigar"...insert fascinating story here. He reaches in his private stash and hands me a cigar. Awesome...my friend explains that we are celebrating my birthday. Avo takes back the cigar and says that, that one just wont do. He hand one of his extra special cigars. They are all unband and explains that this is one of the cigars he had made for his birthday long ago and that you can not buy these cigars. He then proceeds to give everyone at the tables rare Avos that can not be purchased! For the ladies that may have preferred flavored cigars he went to his car and came back with another tin of cigars that his son makes. As of right now they can not be purchased either (I only know that because I tried to find them and couldn't, I asked him the next week I saw him and he explained.)

It about time for dinner and he asks us if we would like to join him for dinner at the Lebanese restaurant at the end of the block. We didn't want to monopolize his time and we were waiting for others to arrive. We asked him to make some recommendations for food choices and that we will arrive later in the evening.

Before he left he gave me his cell phone number and if we ever want to meet up for cigars/dinner or go by his place to play music together to give him a call. Awesome!

To top it all off on the way home we all were feeling good after an amazing evening and decided to buy lottery tickets. Sure enough... I won the Florida Lottery that evening. First time I've ever played.

The next day I hung out with Don Pepin. No joke.
