Read a book on cigars

So the wife is out a few days ago, and picks me up a book from barnes and noble. Its called teh complete idiots guide to cigars, second edition.
Now I do understand this type of book may be very simplistic for a lot you experienced cigar people, but I am new to discovery all the little details about cigars.
I found this book to be very easy reading and in some parts very informative.
It is only two years old(second edition), and has truly filled me in on a lot of cigar knowledge. Hopefully most of it accurate. So if anyone needs a good cigar primer, nothing wrong with this one.
Its not the dummy series, but the idiots guide series. LOL
I found the parts particularly interesting and informative on the history of cuban cigar making from the time of castros takeover, to the planting of the seeds, in other countries, and the development.

Much regards Jerry

Sounds like a good book might have to look into it.

Thanks,

Re: Read a book on cigars

I just saw those shoplifting clips on the Tobac U. website. I would be enraged if I were the shopkeeper. As a cigar consumer, I love breathing my way through a humidor to pick out some stix, but with scummy lifters like those around, if I owned the shop I would not allow self-serve. Or maybe you could register your best repeat customers with proper ID before allowing them into the humi.

Slime like those lifters should be airlifted to Haiti....and dropped from a hundred feet without parachutes. (best if the fall doesn't completely kill them outright)

Re: Read a book on cigars

The Idiot's Guide is a very good book for beginners and for smokers who want to know more about the cigar lifestyle. I also find the Cigar Companion to be useful when I want to know the background of a brand.

I find it fascinating how the world of cigars has evolved. Especially interesting is the relationships among many of the brands and who actually created/made a line. Books like these are hard to keep updated, I would imagine.

Re: Read a book on cigars

I just read that book too. I feel like I'm a bit more informed than I was before I read it. At least I was able to talk intelligently to the tobacconist about what I wanted in a smoke.
