Fuente Super Premiums Fail again

So I bitched about the GoF I smoked tasting of ammonia and not even finishing it before I pitched it in the campfire and said I would never buy another Fuente Super Premium... I love the OpusX but I dont consider that a Fuente Super Premium as they are under $20 unless you get the crazy ones like the chili pepper... So Tim Zito gives me a Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Edicion de Aniversario at Chris Rider's herf in July... I've been really wanting to try one of these but the price range runs on these from $25-$35 for the vitola he gave me... so today is a really nice day and Im like what the hell I havent been smoking a lot lately so my palate isnt burnt and I think I can enjoy this one. Well this happens..

Now the flavor and draw are awesome... and I will admit that this wrapper cracking isnt effecting the smokability of the cigar yet.. but still for a pricetag that this cigar carries.. I really dont expect something like this to happen. Thanks again for the cigar Tim I am going to finish it because I am really enjoying it but damn.. cmon Fuente!

I'm with you on that. For the prices on these they should be almost perfect.

That sucks nick. I have had a few super premiums that have been bad as well.

Very disappointing when you spend a good amount of money on it

Yeesh!!!

I know it happens sometimes, but... You definitely don't want it to happen to that stick fo sho... I'd guess I'd be livid too!

They can't all be perfect, but I see what your sayin... Feels like you should expect a little better quality for the $$$ spent on that one.

Re: Fuente Super Premiums Fail again

did you dry box it before lighting?
i've had that happen more than once on cigars i took out of the humidor and torched right away. lately i've been taking the next day's smokes out and putting them in an empty cigar box the night before and they burn great.
i think the quick temp. and/or humidity change added with the heat from burning causes the split and peeling..just my thoughts...

Is that a patch on the wrapper?

Sure looks like a patch to me,,,looks like an inherent issue beforehand. I'd still send that photo to Fuente Customer Service anyway,,,for the kind of $$$ those go for you did not get adequate compensation,,even if it was a gift. You deserve another cigar from the company.

I store my cigars are 65%rh, I smoke regularly straight out of this humidor and dont have issues like this at all so I know its not a humidity issue. The man who gifted it to me takes care of his cigars very well and is known as Papa Herf on the cbid forums because of his relentless assault of people with bombs when he shows up to herfs which is where he nailed me with this one. I've smoked other cigars he bombed me with and none of them did this either.

I would also like to note this happened below both bands... I know in the pic the bands are off but the wrapper cracking was not due to me taking the bands off or the stubborn fuente cigar band glue that I also hate

Re: Fuente Super Premiums Fail again

As some of you know I like taking wrappers off of cigars and switching them to try something new. I have done this with the cheapest Oliva, expensive Tats, VSGs, LFD, CAO, etc etc.. The worse looking stick was an AF Anejo, yes the wrapper had a patch on it, and the cigar without the wrapper just looked like dog $hit! Binder looked terrible and overall construction was just bad. Now I know that is not a crazy priced stick. But being how limited and hard to come by you would think they would turn out a better product.

On the other hand I have never had any real issues somking any AF besides a slightly off burn.

One question Ace, is that a Cameroon wrapper? They tend to crack very very easy compared to other wrappers.

If you are going to send any feedback, please send it to Prometheus International, as they are the distributors of this particular brand, not A. Fuente.

Besides the patch on the wrapper was the cigar bad, or did you just think the binder was ugly? What was wrong with the construction?

According to cigar.com its a sungrown habano
"Starting with an aged sun grown Habano wrapper, the same rare wrapper used on Opus X, Don Carlos Edicion de Anniversario is blended with the choicest Dominican fillers and aged for at least two years before making their way to the public."

I thought it tasted alot like an Opus without the citrus and less spice.. now I know why

Well I haven't seen a pretty binder yet, that's why I didn't use the word ugly. Looked like (at the time) my 4 year old son rolled it. I put a LFD Cameroon Cabinet wrapper on it and it did burn good. That's why I made the other comment that I have had a AF with any real issues. I was more surprised by the patch then anything else.
