Famous 3000 revisited
I don't know if this qualifies for a review, so I am putting this in the main lounge. A couple of nights ago I had a robusto Famous Nic 3000 I got from svillekid (I only bought a couple of bundles of the torpedoes, should have picked up at least a bundle of the robusto). It had maybe three or four months of humidor time on it, and Cliff had told me he thought they smoked a touch sweeter than the torps. That seemed to be the case to some degree, but I also picked up something else...
My first couple of these were torps I smoked not long after I got them, since those here who like them indicated they were fine right away. At that time, I felt they were a bargain: pretty well built, medium strength with a distinctive, fairly medium to slightly medium+ flavor equal to a number of ten dollar + cigars I have had. I've sort of wandered into ISOMS over the last month or so and had not had one since those first two or three. The Robusto the other night seemed to be going down the same path, a very pleasant and tasty smoke in the middle of the road, and still a great buy. Then about half way, BOOM! I started getting big mouthfuls of flavor. It stuck with me all the way to my nubbing it at an embarrassingly short state. I thought, whoa, that was a bit more powerful and tasty than I remembered, and chalked it up to either a particularly strong stick or maybe something going on with the robusto size. Then, an hour or so ago, I figured I had a lot of work on hand, I'm backed up a week and a half at least, and people are waiting on me to get finished with my appraisals so they could close on their houses, etc. Perfect time to take a break and go outside and smoke a cigar and watch the hummingbirds feed. I pulled a torpedo out of my first batch I bought, with about three months or so in the humi. Nice, kind of spicy taste, medium strength, then in a repeat of the other night, the thing started picking up more flavor at the three-quarter to half-way point, and it strengthed, too. I had to come in and check on a fax so I nubbed it at about the two inch point. I don't know if it is just me or what, but I noticed a distinct difference/improvement/increase in flavor and strength over my first experience with these. Has anyone else noticed anything like this or am I just imagining things? |

Re: Famous 3000 revisited
I smoked a robusto again last night for the first time in months and I thought the profile changed a little as well. I thought it had gotten a little spicier but I also thought that the strength and flavor had smoothed out a little. When I first got them, they tended to be a little strong and harsh for my tastes - not to mention that they gave me a little bit of a buzz.
But the smoke last night was a much smoother and more enjoyable smoke. Clearly, a little resting of these guys can go quite a ways. |

Re: Famous 3000 revisited
I bought a budle of the robustos back in Feb and smoked about 5 of them in the first 2 weeks. I thought they were pretty good at the time. I lit one up last week and it was noticably better. Some of the harshness had gone and the flavor was a little more defined and better tasting. I might have to get another bundle. For $36 per bundle these are incredible yard gars that can be enjoyed like a premium smoke.

Re: Famous 3000 revisited
Always hear nothing but good things about these gars! I was thinking of picking up some Curly Head Deluxes for a Memorial Day BBQ, but I think I will use this as an excuse to order some of these bad boys up. Thanks for the reminder!!!!!
Hopefully they can ship them in time. Time to go fire up the credit card!!!!! |

Re: Famous 3000 revisited
I had my first one last week. I got it in a NST with cquon. I had the robusto and had a very similiar experience.
The cigar was so good i ordered a bundle the next morning. The robusto size was out of stock so i ordered the torpedos. I was a little worried they would have a different taste but from your review it seems that im going to be in good shape. Thanks for the review |
