Re: This weekends project. A New Humidor

Over the weekend, my wife reminded me that my mom and dad have an old cedar closet they need to get rid of and suggested I take it to store cigars. Of course, all the aromatic cedar would have to be replaced with Spanish cedar. So I'm wondering if it's really worth the effort, if I have to butcher the thing up. If the lining can be removed with little effort, than maybe. But if the aromatic stuff is just part of the walls, then it's probably hopeless ...

Wow, that's awesome! I've been trying to decide if I should go with a Vinotemp or convert a cabinet. After seeing this, I'm definetely going with a cabinet...

Re: This weekends project. A New Humidor

Two questions:

1. Where did you purchase your cedar?

2. How did you go about installing it inside?

Thanks.

Re: This weekends project. A New Humidor

I got the wood at the rockler store about a mile down the street from my house. lol I bought it by the board foot and re-dimensioned it (Cut the 1" thick board into 3x1/4" thick boards)

The panels of Spanish cedar are floating. I cut the panels to size then use the 1/2"x1" boards along the top and bottom to hold them in place. This allows them to expand and contract freely.
I left between 1/8" and 1/16" around the boards to allow for some expansion but one of them was cut too close, when I started seasoning them last night it warped a little under the pressure. Not a big deal it is still good.
