I just made my first cigar purchase.
So, I've smoked a few cigars with friends, but they've always been friend's cigars, and only done it a few times. But I liked doing it. I was contemplating buying when I first registered this account, but unsure what to buy, never did.
I just saw a few deals at cigar.com and spent $35 on some cigars, I got the following along with a 20 cigar humidor: Macanudo Cafe 5 Vegas Gold Romeo y Julieto Viejo Padilla Obsidian Bahia Blu Etiqueta Azul Fonseca Graycliff 1666 Perdomo Lot 23 La Gloria Cubana CAO Black Rocky Patel R4 Gurkha’s Park Avenue. And three of them are Acids, but the combo didn't say which. Just 3 acids for $5, so I added it because I've heard good things about them from friends. Any suggestions on which I should smoke first? Are any of them not so good? Any advice on what to try next? |

I would suggest that you smoke them in the order you just wrote them on your post.

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
That looks to be a really good cross section of cigars for someone to start out on. Nobody can tell YOU what is good,,we all have our own tastes and Acid cigars just don't do it for me,,,but I wouldn't tell you not to try them. Try as many cigars as you can and your taste will guide you as to what your prefercences might be. Most people start off with mild cigars so they can develop a good start and won't be blown out of the water with a cigar that is too spicy, full of pepper or too strong where it affects your taste buds. It's all in what you get used to and where your taste profile will lead you. Good luck and have fun. Keep reading as many articles that are found here to help you on your journey.

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
I would suggest smoking the acids first, only for the sake of storage. I wouldnt keep acid cigars in the same humi as the rest of my sticks.
Enjoy them, and congrats on your first of many purchases!

Hi Brinson,
Nice to have you join us! As I recall the "Gurkha Park Avenue" is rather mild and so would be a good early choice. It is possible for you to look up reviews on all of your cigars and that will help you decide what you are in the mood for... in case you can't find your cigar mood ring ![]()

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
Odd that so many people here seem to dislike Acids as I hear talk about how good they are alot. Perhaps it is just the crowd or age group I hang around with.

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
I personally like them, I dont smoke them all the time, but it is a nice change. I wasnt saying whether or not i liked them in my earlier post, i was just saying that they will effect the other cigars if they are stored together, acids are infused and give a very distinct smell that will rub off on non-infused cigars, I was just giving a useful tid bit of advice

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
Thanks for the heads-up on that; I've been wanting to get another of those cigar.com 10 cigar+humidor combos so I just snatched one up along with a couple 5-packs of Bahia Blus which just happened to be the daily deal for another three minutes.
![]() I've tried almost all of the cigars in that sampler except for the Fonseca. I liked every one of them except for the Padilla, although I'm going to give it another chance as it may have simply been a bad stick or a bad day for that flavor profile, and the Rocky, which burned for crap and was exceptionally bland. Even so it is an absolutely fantastic deal overall considering that the cigars alone are worth far more than $20 without even counting the humidor. I'd say start with the Bahia Blu just because it is very mild but good and then maybe hit up the CAO Black for something a little fuller but still mild. I may be biased, though, as those are two of my favorites. For the most part they are all mild cigars with fairly simple flavor profiles, but a couple that stand out are the Perdomo Lot 23, which is notably spicy throughout, and the Etiqueta Azul, which has a distinct aroma of a liquor in it. The Graycliff is a great medium smoke if you're not feeling mild, although it's not a nut buster by any stretch.Outside of that sampler, the 5 Vegas Gold just happens to be my current favorite stick. Mild, slightly spicy, with smoke that is as smooth as silk and billowy as cumulus clouds. The RyJ Viejo I just had last weekend and... meh. Wasn't nasty but just didn't hit the spot for me. Otherwise, I've never had a Macanudo Cafe or any ACIDs so I can't offer you any info on those. |

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
Nice pickups. Give that Macanudo Cafe a try on Sunday morning with some strong coffee while reading the paper, you'll enjoy it.

Re: I just made my first cigar purchase.
Welcome first off and congrats on finding this great community of BOTLs. You seem to have picked out a good selection to try just starting off. Make some notes on each one, what you liked, what you didn't and then do some searching around here, ask some questions, and before you know it your gonna be spending all your money, and time on cigars, and around here!
