A Fair Cigar
Yesterday, I made my annual pilgrimage to the Alaska State Fair. I saw things there that I can never un-see, but that's a story for another time.
Years of experience have taught me that I can expect to take about 30 minutes to get from home to the Fair turnoff from the highway, and another 30-60 minutes to get the five miles from there to the actual fairgrounds parking. I decided to take some cigars with me, and specifically some quickies for that part of the day. I took a partial tin of 5 Vegas Shorties, and something else, which I'll get to in just a minute. Sure enough, a couple of minutes after I turned off the highway, we came to a dead stop for several minutes, so I grabbed my pre-clipped... CAO CherryBomb. Don't crucify me, OK? In a failed effort to push a Swisher Sweets smoker down the slope, I had bought 5-er's of these and Eileen's Dream, both in the petite corona size. I've already written about my first and only experience with the Eileen's Dream. I didn't care for it at all. It's one of those things that sounds better on paper than it actually is. They just went so over the top with it, I don't like it, no Sir. Because of that, I was expecting the CherryBomb to also be horrible, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought I would hate it, but I didn't. They're really not bad at all. I would qualify that by saying two things. I think the PC, or maybe a full corona is about as big as I would want to go with it. Bigger than that, I think, would be too much. Second, it's definitely not the sort of thing I would want to smoke every day. More like, once every few months, have one after lunch. Give a choice between this and a Swisher, I would pick this every time. I'm even considering ording a 5-er of the vanilla ones. I like pipe tobacco with vanilla in the mix.

Re: A Fair Cigar
I think the old "smoke what you like" applies here, right?
Every now and then I pick up a Villiger export if I want a quick smoke. This isn't my favorite cigar by any means, but it's not bad for a smoke that you can enjoy and not feel too bad if you have to toss it early. Sounds like that little Cherry Bomb made the gridlock a little easier to deal with! ![]()

Re: A Fair Cigar
Nothing wrong with a flavored cigar. I hear mostly bad things about them but I've enjoyed an Acid every once in a while. Eileen's dream was the second box I ever bought. I got them cheap on JR's auction. My tastes have changed and I smoke the more traditional cigars but that doesn't mean I would turn a good flavor away.

Re: A Fair Cigar
If I am going to smake a flavored cigar it would be a CAO. I like that line of flavors that they have. I would really like to know what tobacco they use in those cigars.

Re: A Fair Cigar
It's not surprising, given the excellent job that CAO generally does on their other blends, that they would make a good flavored cigar.
