Looking for a little humidor advice
Hello, I'm a pretty young lad who took up smoking cigars just a couple years ago. For my wedding, a good friend bought me my first humidor and since then I've been collecting, if you will, a variety of cigars.
I recently purchased a few Toraņos and placed them in my humidor. Each of them is individually wrapped in plastic. I have a relatively small desk humidor (holds up to maybe 50 cigars maximum) and I had been told that keeping a variety of cigars together can have a pleasant effect on the others. My question is whether or not I should leave them individually wrapped or let the actual cigars lie directly next to (and in contact with) other cigars. Any/all related advice would be supremely appreciated. |

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
From what I've read around these forums, some people leave their cigars in the cellophane, some don't.
Some people might not like the marrying/blending of flavors that can be attributed by leaving 2 completely different, "naked" cigars next to each other. Because of this, some people might even separate each brand and model of cigar with their cedar dividers to keep the intended flavors that the company wants the smoker to experience. Some people take cigars out of their tubes and wrap them up with the cedar sleeve that comes with it. I do. Personally, I just keep my cheap cigars away from the more expensive ones, while also keeping different countries away from each other as well. I keep cello on, but remove cigars and cedar sleeves from their tubes. |

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
I think it's awesome how disagreements on these forums are so relaxed amongst members. Maybe more people should pick it up...
Anyhow, I think I go the answer I wanted. Cello = off. I think I might just hang around these forums for a while. |

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
Glad you ar enjoying tings here.
Congrats on getting married and finding the great hobby of cigars. Both are wonderful things and the only real question is which one will end up costing you more. As for cell on off store in box and the multitude of other concerns you will have as you move forward - the answer is leave it as the manufacture/roller/whomever made it. I am surprised at the number of people that want to take cigars out of boxes and store as singles or mess with the cello on our off thing. PS this info is also good for wives leave them as the manufacture intented them to be enjoyed. fake boobs, plastic surgery etc.

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
LOL
in my opinion this is all really personal preference, I however take the cello off, I dont want my cigars resting in plastic for any long periods of time, I like to have them take on some of the cedar that the humidor offers. ![]() Welcome, and enjoy!

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
First the "leave the cello on...more protection" argument made sense to me. Then I liked "take the cello off" reasons being; "ages better", "better moisture dispersion", "looks better" (it does look better). Unfortunately, being brand new to this, I didn't think far enough ahead, to keep cigars of different brands separated. I think this approach resulted in some of my cigars developing slightly muddy and indistinct flavor from being in contact with different cigars.
So, I'm on to phase 3 of my cigar storage experiment, which is...leave them how they came, and separate non-cello'd cigars from each other with cedar dividers...except...now I've got to worry about non-cello, plastic wrappers which, it makes perfect sense to me, should come off. ![]() Just do what you think you need to be doing, until reason, or experience dictates a change. ![]()

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
In a fifty count humi. I doubt the cigars will be in there long enough for any marrying of flavors... I have had cigars stored next to one another and out of the cello for years with no ill effects.
Marrying of flavors unless its a flavored cigar, which is a no-no. takes years IMO... |

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
Unless you are talking about flavored cigars, it would take a very, very long time for any flavors to transfer. If you are going to smoke the cigars short term, take the cello off as cello is only semi permeable and slows humidification. If the sleeves are plastic, and some are, no humidity at all will penetrate them.

Re: Looking for a little humidor advice
What? Cello off? Are you crazy man? Why you gotta ignore the "Cello On" people?
Ha. Welcome to the forum. Sometimes I take them off, sometimes I don't. Guess it depends on....absolutely nothing, for me. Hey, on your next post, you should ask whether or not to leave the band on. Im getting a headache just thinking about it. Happy smokes to you. |
