If his device is giving him a temp readout of 69.4 degrees he likely has a digital hygrometer. I know analog hydro's don't read out the decimal place nor temps

Rev.
Even if it is digital it still needs to be tested for accuracy. I would venture to guess that about 1 out of 1,000 digitals are accurate when purchased.

But in that case the advice for a salt test should be avoided as for digital hydro's it's recommended to avoid doing the salt test do to possible damage of the electronics, so they say.

However, I have a Western Caliber III that I never tested and it's dead accurate. I know because it reads out the exact humidity of my beads and the same temps as my house thermometer.

Rev.
I have heard a couple of times about not using salt test for checking. I suppose it could have an effect on one occasionally but seeing as how beads, packs, etc, use salt in them it seems that it does not harm them.

All I can say Rev is that you are fortunate that your unit is spot on. You can find many posts here about the accuracy (or lack thereof) of digital units.

Yeah I've seen a lot of them. That's one reason I went with the Western Caliber III, all the excellent ratings and the claim of +/- 1% humidity, +/-1 degree temperature accuracy. Gotta admit I was impressed.

Re: New to the Club

I am going to head on over to my local Cigar shop and see what they have to offer when I am done work. In the time being I am going to salt test my tester. What are proper conditions that a humidor should support? like temp and humidity.

Re: New to the Club

Well my collection is growing and I was looking at a lower priced humidor and was wondering if this would be a good one
MIO CHERRY WOOD HUMIDOR - CUBAN CRAFTERS STARTER CIGAR HUMIDORS - HOLDS 40 CIGARS - SPANISH CEDAR INTERIOR

I need to get my post count up so I can post links and pictures of what I got today.

Re: New to the Club

In my humidor I had several cigars in plastic bags. Is it safe to remove them from there bags and just leave them exposed? The bags are those plastic wraps many cigars come in from the local shops.
