New to the Club
Hey guys,
I have been searching around and reading as much as I can and I finally decided I would register here and get to know and learn as much as I can about cigar smoking/collecting. I have been smoking cigars for about 4-5 months now and have tried a wide variety and I seem to always be coming back to my first and my favorite, which is a CAO Gold. I like trying new types of cigars and was hoping that you guys could point a new smoker in a direction towards better cigars that you guys like to smoke. My dad and I like to smoke cigars together when I am home as we watch baseball or football and he asked me what types I would like for Christmas. What do you guys recommend as well as a decent humidor? Nothing big or expensive just something to keep some special cigars safe for awhile. Thanks, Kyle |

Re: New to the Club
As far as humidors, go big. Many people purchase their first modest one and fill it up in no time and end up buying a bigger 2nd, 3rd,...8th in my case. Others end up doing coolerdors. I find that the humidor prices on Cbid can't be beat. Welcome!

Re: New to the Club
Welcome man! I am a fan of the cao gold as well, there are so many others out there to try, but I like pretty much anything by Don Pepin Garcia, a little more full than the cao gold, but very tasty!
This is the best part of cigar smoking, trying as many as you can!!! ![]()

Re: New to the Club
that sounds very good I have heard good things about the samplers. My sampler right now is a New different cigar and a CAO Gold hahaha. I just picked up a nice 5pack of CAO Golds for car rides, a Fabrica De Tobacos Perdomo S.A. Grand Cru, CAO gold honey for the flavor craving every once and awhile.
Thanks Smokings yeah I love trying all the different types. I wish I could find all my wraps that I have saved up. |

Re: New to the Club
Welcome...
If you like CAO Gold, I would recommend a Chateau Real by Drew Estate or a Gurkha Symphony... MrMusicMan is right....Buy a humidor that will hold at least 150 cigars... I have a 100 count I thought was the end all be all when I first got it, and it is too small now. My back up 20 cigar humidor is full too, and I have 24 more cigars on the way and no room... I like buying brand samplers to smoke the main cigars they produce and get a feel for their variety. Buying 5 packs are good options too... Cbid, cigarmonster, and CI will become your friend or enemy in time... Best way to save on cigars!!! |

Re: New to the Club
Welcome aboard! Definitely buy a humi at least twice as big as you think you will need. I started with a 80ct that was full in a few months, then got a 200ct a couple months ago... now both of these are almost full and I've been eyeballing coolers at the Wal-Mart! As for cigars I also love the CAO gold, you may want to give the Nub Connecticut and Gurkha symphony a whirl.

Re: New to the Club
Definitely heed the advice of the others here - GET A BIG HUMI TO START! Lol, it's true for nearly everyone that's a relatively new cigar smoker that joined up here. I started with a 50 count desktop humi and now have this beauty:
500 Cigar Standing Humidor: Cheap Humidors Cigar Humidor Cigar Accessories CheapHumidors.com Personally, that is all I need. I am now set and see no need to expand further, though many do. Anyhow, the truth is humidors never hold the quoted number of sticks. They use the idea that you technically can shove that many in if they are like 40 ring guage (really skinny) and robusto size or shorter. So just figure you can store about 50-66% of the quoted number. You'll save money in the long run by going bigger, and you won't have to worry about overstocking or carefully choosing your purchases cause you'll have the space. As for the cigars, I highly recommend you try Padron, Rockey Patel, La Flor Dominicana, and Joya De Nicaragua. Welcome aboard! Rev. |

Re: New to the Club
When I was at the cigar store the other week I decided I would pick up a little cheap box they had. I put my temp/humidity reader in the box and the readings have come out to 69.4degrees with a 59% humidity. Is it safer to just take them out or are they okay in the box. Also, I have a few tin boxes that my CAO Golds came in and was wondering if I should remove them from the box?

Re: New to the Club
Kyle, you will need to check the accuracy of your hygrometer. Do a search for "Salt test" and you will learn how to do this very simple test. NEVER trust the reading without first testing it.
I recommend you and your Father smoke a Pepin cigar named "My Father" appropriatly enough. This is an excellent cigar that is well balanced and refined.
