Need Help My Cigars Are Cracking In My Vinotemp

Help , I have a vinotemp thermoeletric humidor and my cigars are dry and are cracking at the mouth part. I have 70% humidity beads which the temp ranges from 55 to 65 during the day and reads a steady 70% humidity. I have enough beads in there? Am I doing something wrong?

The temperature could be your problem, if you didnt regulate the cigars, and they came from a higher temp and got put into something in the 55-65 degree range Im pretty sure that could cause cracking, someone correct me if im wrong

Yes it sounds like the temp is the culprit here. While there is nothing wrong with temps that low they should not go from one extreme to the other.

Yes the cigar shop I buy them from keeps the room at 70 degrees and my house is much cooler. What can I do to stop this and how do I regulate the cigars? Should I return the vinotemp since my house is always below 70 degrees and get a thick wood cabinet to keep the cold out? Thanks for the advice!

Why is your vinotemp going down to 55? If you set it to max (around 64.5 I think) then shouldn't it stay there within a few degrees?

And yes I think you should return the vino temp and put that money towards more cigars and a cooler. or if you want somthing nice looking then a cabinet humidor, but if your house is always below 70 even in the summer then there really is no point to a vinotemp. but I completely understand if you want to keep it because they are really cool, great seal and they look very nice. so its up to you but I think that money could be used on something you need, that being more cigars.

Has to be a temp. problem. I would try turning the Vino off and see what the temp looks like. Don't leave it off but see what temp. you have every hr or 2. I also have a cooler and it's a steady 70 & 68 RH.

Re: Need Help My Cigars Are Cracking In My Vinotemp

I called vinotemp an they said that if the temp makes the inside let's say 55 degrees it won't be able to heat it up to 65 the unit will just stop cooling. Will a thick wood cabinet hold the temp better? Or do I have any other options? I don't wanna keep it if it's pointless a had seen a solid wood humidor for the same price. Any ideas?

Re: Need Help My Cigars Are Cracking In My Vinotemp

If your house does not get above 70 degrees during the cooler months, just unplug the vinotemp until it gets warm again and you need to plug it back in. Your Vino shouldn't get cooler than the inside of your house... what temp do you keep your house during the day?

I just bought an Edgestar unit, live in the Seattle area and will be doing the same. No use in having it plugged in if you don't need it cooled. You probably only need to worry about getting a fan inside to push the air around and open the door briefly a few times a week to circulate the air. I bought the unit because this summer was terribly hot and the inside of my house was 90+ degrees for a good period of time! I don't need the dreaded beetles!

I am still a rookie but based on what I have read that is what I will doing. When the summer comes around again, I will plug it in.

Good luck!
