I had told him that a mutual friend had suggested (while discussing hard-to-finds), "smoke nothing until you can replace it." Well, Andy "semi-agreed", but then "semi-rebuffed" with his "smokem' if ya gottem." I told Andy that special cigar occasions for me were typically not Christmas, NYE and such, but rather when I have the alone time to sit and truly appreciate the stick for itself.

And, that's exactly what I did, thanks to Andy. The night after he left, I dug deep in my magic box, into the deepest recess and unashamedly snatched out one of the sacred Anejo. It did NOT disappoint.

Holidays and such are great for premiums, but I reserve super-premiums for my special cigar occasions.

I will have some time again tonight. Something cuban? Mmmmm....

Thanks again, Andy.

I agree about super premium and I am smoking an Opus Shark, not an Anejo, but an Opus Shark, an Opus Robusto Maduro and a God of Fire Carlito on my birthday to celebrate being alive. I promised Carlito that I would smoke the Maduro he gave me and not let it just sit in my humidor.

Birthday, eh? Well, mine is too far away to assemble the menu. The next biggie for me will be my end of October vacation. It will be cold enough then to sit in front of an outdoor fire pit at my friends house and sacrifice my first God of Fire Carlito Churchill. I plan to present him with his very first CC. If there's time, I might treat him to his first ever Opus X. It should be wonderful.

I'm still trying to decide what to bring to the September Andy's House Herf!

I always burn a premium when I get divorced.

Not kidding.

Great post. Even though I find myself with a lot of time on my hands lately I can rarely get myself to sit still to thoroughly enjoy a nice cigar. Now that I've got my cigar lounge about complete I'm finding myself more chilled out when I smoke.

Re: When is a good time to smoke a special cigar?

I have to admit there are a few cigars I'm saving for special occasions; birthday, anniversary, etc. But it never seems like the special cigars last very long anyway. I always seem to find excuses to smoke them. Sometimes I smoke them just because I've had a bad day, or even a really good day. Other times I'll bust out something special just because I'm having a herf.

In fact any time I'm hanging out with other BOTL, that's a special occasion in my mind, & calls for a "special" cigar.

Re: When is a good time to smoke a special cigar?

When I consider smoking a cigar it is with the thought that I am going to sit down, relax and enjoy it. I don't smoke daily but the time I put aside for a cigar is a special occassion when I want to unwind and think/dream. So each cigar and the time I take off to enjoy it is special.

Re: When is a good time to smoke a special cigar?

If I didn't already have a ton of cigars I love, I'd be hard-pressed to hold onto one for that "special" moment. I have some ISOMs that were my dad's and have one a year on his birthday. The last one I smoked, a Punch Monarcha from 1997, was amazing. Luckily, I have 2 more of those

Re: When is a good time to smoke a special cigar?

Everyday I open my eyes and know I am getting another friggin shipment of cigars in from CBID or Monster. This gives me inspiration to wake up each and every day.
