Wink My 1st 5 Vegas Classic

So I had my first 5 Vegas Classic Torpedo.
I smoked half of it before dinner, and the other half after dinner.
The first half was good. Being a noob and all, I found the flavor to be overly rich and full bodied (I didnt realize that this was a med-full bodied cigar as I prefer milds).
Wasn't bad, but a little harsh for my taste.
The second half made me sick.
I have never gotten more than a buzz from any cigar before, but I inhaled a monster puff of smoke by accident (I used to smoke the other stuff before) and just sub-consciously inhaled.
Nearly choked.
Felt like crap afterwards and nausea started in.
Remember reading of something that countered the effects of nicotine on the forum, and search for it again.
SUGAR!
Drinking a glass of coke right now.
Feeling good, but damn that was a bad move!

As usual, Puff members to the rescue!
Thanks for all of the info and great advice guys!

Re: My 1st 5 Vegas Classic

Gotta learn when to throttle back.

Early on I can remember a 5 classsic doing that to me to, it was because it tasted soooo gooood, I just could`nt help myself and wound up going way past my limit. I`v built up a bit of tolerance by now and can chew my way through a classsic pretty quickly. They are delicious!

But something stronger, I still have to be careful. Smoked a Pepin last night (CI legend), and it damn near took me there, it tasted so good, LOL. I too resorted to soda and it allowed me to finsh the cigar instead of put it down.

With a stronger cigar, I`m learning to take quick in and out puffs in between getting a feel for the cigar, just to keep it lit rather trying to snork the whole darn thing,

Cheers,
Randal

Re: My 1st 5 Vegas Classic

Hey yzingerr glad you enjoyed (at least the first half) of your 5 vegas classic. Its another one of my faves. I haven't noticed the nicotine buzz from these yet, but have been smoking for a while before I picked these up, so maybe I'm used to it. If your looking for a good mild smoke I'd check out the EO 21s, you can get em on Cbid cheap. One other thing, I noticed you said you smoked half before dinner, and the other half after. This may have contributed to harsh flavors, which may have helped you become sick. I used to do this quite often when I started out, and have learned that a cigar really never tastes the same after its been out for a while and I try a relight.

Either way, check out those EO's!

Re: My 1st 5 Vegas Classic

I don't know all the science behind it, but I find that 5 to maybe 10 minutes is about as long as I'll let one go unlit, or it's just not worth the trouble. Something about the tars, and what-not. If you like the Classics at all, I have to recommend the corona size if you find your smoking time is likely to be interrupted fairly often. I think it's the only 5 Vegas blend that comes in a true corona size, and at just over $2 each by the box, you won't be tempted to try to re-light one that has been out for too long.

Full Disclosure Statement: I am a convicted 5 Vegas whore, and I am not ashamed of it.

Re: My 1st 5 Vegas Classic

Oddly enough I can remember my first vegas doing that to me too. First half was nice second half got to me for some reason. I also hadn't had my humi set up and regulated so it was probably too dry.

Re: My 1st 5 Vegas Classic

Classics have been one of my faves for awhile now. The corona size is really good but the 5x55 box pressed seems to have the most flavor to me.

I received 6 of them from a sampler on CI. I wasn't very impressed, the first couple of smokes were rather bland and burned badly. I let the rest settle in my humidor for several months after that. Tried another 2 weeks back and they're definitely better with some age.

Maybe smoking em right off the truck was bad because they were still very moist and unevenly moist at that? I've noticed that even though I'm so very tempted to smoke my sticks, it's much better to wait and fully enjoy the smoke when it's settled down from its intense journey.

Good stuff! Much smoother than the Classic, and the smoke is ridiculously creamy. I prefer the larger sizes but if you're like me and rarely have longer than 30-45 minutes to enjoy your cigar then check out the Nuggets.
